Feminine Aura at San Francisco's Juliana Hotel Gets Makeover by Designer Barbara Best-Santos
SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, 2001 Recently unveiling its newly renovated lobby and living room area, Hotel Juliana now welcomes guests with a contemporary and sophisticated style and attitude adding warmth and liveliness to the hotels European-style décor.  The Juliana is located atop Nob Hill conveniently between the dynamic Financial District and bustling Union Square.  Today, the hotel caters to more modern, fast-paced sensibilities, while maintaining its aura as a safe-haven for graceful relaxation.  Originally a 1903 historic building, the Juliana was renovated and reopened by the San Francisco-based Kimpton Group in 1985.

Designer Barbara Best-Santos of Best Santos Studio in Berkeley, Calif., integrated a variety of inspirations and studied contrasting styles, colors and materials to create the new lobby.  Neutral tones, refined furnishings and elegant art are featured throughout the light and airy lobby.  The hotels lobby and living room areas now feature a sparkling, jewel-like interior.  Upon entering the stylish, yet warm and inviting foyer, guests will note gold leafed etchings on the ceiling and

walls, and themes of nature imprinted on the window shades and fabrics.  Retro colors of vibrant orange, gold, green, and deep brown swirl through the handcrafted furnishings.

A marble reception desk is framed by a dazzling vine-like iron and blown glass canopy that is suspended from the ceiling.  Comfortable chairs placed near the large, welcoming fireplace invite guests to unwind and engage in conversation, especially during the evening wine reception a signature trademark of Hotel Juliana.  The crackle of the fireplace and the soft din of conversation melds with soft music, creating the ideal atmosphere for guests to read a novel or chat over a glass of Chardonnay.

Ascending the stairs to the understated and comfortable guestrooms, travelers discover a personal sanctuary a calming retreat perfectly suited to complete a day of business on a labtop computer or soak the stress away in a soothing hot bath.  All 107 guestrooms and suites were also redecorated with new shutters, televisions, linens and bedding, in addition to upgrading all beds to the luxurious Sealy Postulux Pillowtop beds.  Additional room amenities include voicemail, dataport capabilities, Aveda bathroom amenities, writing desks, and complimentary morning newspaper.  Special services including limousine transportation to the Financial District, access to the hotels newly designed fitness center, morning continental breakfast and coffee/tea served in the lobby, and concierge service are also available to guests.

In conjunction with the reopening and renovation, Hotel Juliana is returning to its roots by catering to the needs of the woman traveler.  When opened in 1985, the hotel was named after Juliana Bancroft, who at the time worked side-by-side with the late Bill Kimpton.  Juliana Bancroft is responsible for inspiring this feminine aura at the hotel and making the property a favorite for both women business and leisure travelers alike.  Today, the Juliana is primarily women-run and offers a more personal, friendly atmosphere that allows the modern traveler to relax.

Hotel Juliana now offers special amenities such as Aveda bath products, did you forget items in the honor bar, a variety of womens magazines available for reading, and concierge service for female-friendly restaurants and local venues.
