SAN FRANCISCO, August 29, 2001 The Kimpton
Hotel & Restaurant Group announces the Hotel Rouge (formerly the Quality
Hotel and Suites Downtown) is slated to open in November 2001 in Washington,
DC. Owned by LaSalle Hotel Properties (NYSE:LHO) and located on Embassy
Row in downtown Washington, just five blocks from the White House, the
137-room deluxe boutique hotel will indulge guests with plush surroundings
and innovative amenities.
West Coast designer Mike Moore created the Hotel Rouges interior with a bold execution of the color red. Entering the lobby, guests will be greeted by high-energy music, glamorous lighting and hints of red in accent pillows, pop artwork and sensuous blown-glass sculptures. The color red intensifies from the lobby to the guestroom floors. Amber gel lights reflect off limed wood paneling in the elevator cab and corridors are lined with Chinese red silk wall coverings and stark white woodwork. Guestrooms feature floor-to-ceiling red faux leather headboards and crimson velvet draperies, with a dark red, geometrically patterned carpet and straw-colored, pearlescent walls. All furnishings are custom designed, including the chairs, which are covered in vibrant mohair fabrics and accented with silver leaf paint. A sleek, 10-foot mahogany desk offers expansive workspace, while the surrounding artwork serves as a contemporary and colorful treat for the eyes. Mini bars are filled with out-of-the ordinary items including red wax lips, red jello and temporary tattoos. Specialty suites will include Chat Rooms, for the digerati; Chill Rooms, for those who crave state-of-the-art entertainment; and Chow Rooms, equipped with microwaves and refrigerators ideal for extended stays. Adjacent to the hotel lobby, the BarRouges light fare and libations will spark conversations between out-of-town visitors and fashion-forward Washingtonians. Described by the designer as French couture meets Levis khaki, the BarRouge will showcase a large framed monitor, projecting streaming visual effects accompanied by ever-changing music. The designer chose white leather and aluminum barstools to create an interesting contrast with the sky blue-gray walls and linen terrycloth fabrics. Cocktails as well as creative cuisine will be available at lunch, dinner and late night. Continental breakfast will also be served daily. The hotel features an on-site fitness center, and flexible function space that accommodates up to 100 people. A roving concierge will be on-site to fulfill guests requests, whether its a tune up for a Harley Davidson, a copy of the Kama Sutra or tickets to a hot concert. Distinctive in-room amenities include 27 Sony Wega flat-screen televisions, two-line cordless speakerphones, CD players, data ports, robes and Aveda bath products. The Hotel Rouge is located at 1315 16th Street, NW at the convergence of Massachusetts Avenue and Scott Circle.
