Architecture & Interior Design Awarded to Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy |
Kapaa, Kauai, HI -- May 16, 2001 -- Shell Vacations was recently awarded
the highest honor in the resort development industry for its $13 million
renovation project of the Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy.
According the Malana de Silva, resort general manager, The new interiors are lush and inviting, with everything in each unit completely new including carpeting, wall and window coverings and all furnishings. Each unit is fully equipped for vacation enjoyment and includes full kitchens and washers and dryers. Since completing the renovation, our occupancy has soared with renters happily booking for repeat vacations. Operated as a hotel since it was initially built in the 60s, Shell Vacations purchased the resort in 1999 and spent 18 months and as they completely refurbished the property, converting the hotels 243 units into 108 vacation ownership units with 69 one-bedrooms, 33 two-bedrooms and six studios. The resort is located on eight pristine acres of oceanfront property on the east side of the island, near the Coconut Marketplace and employs a staff of about 60 hospitality professionals. Added Jeffrey P. Server, Senior Vice President of Development/ Acquisition for Shell Vacations, Included as part of the renovation program was extensive landscaping and a completely new swimming pool with a dramatic waterfall, and an elevated ocean side spa, which has become one of the resorts most popular amenities. Other resort amenities include an open-air lobby, tennis court, childrens pool as well as an activity center set against an ocean backdrop. The new fitness center overlooks the lush gardens and features spectacular views of the ocean. The final results of our complete renovation exceeded my highest expectations. The team assembled by Shell Vacations for this major project included Jim Freeman and Wayne Goo of the architectural firm of Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo; Jeannie Starling of Pamela Temples Interiors; the Leonard Parker Company of Coral Gables, Florida, purchasing agent; and contractor Bill Deuchar of Pacific Plus of Honolulu.
