CHICAGO- April 23, 2001 - Affiliates of Chicago-based Hyatt Corporation
and The Robert Mayer Corporation, have secured funding in a joint venture
to build a privately-financed waterfront Hyatt resort overlooking the Pacific
Ocean in scenic Huntington Beach, California. Known as Surf City for
its eight miles of white, sandy beaches and world-class surfing competitions,
this Southern California beach community is an icon of the California lifestyle.
GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corporation will be the hotels permanent lender
on the project. This will be Hyatts 26th property in California.
Construction has recently commenced on the 519-room Hyatt Regency Grand Coast Resort, which is located in Southern California between Long Beach and Newport Beach, just minutes from Disneyland and other major Southern California attractions. Just off the historic Pacific Coast Highway, the resort will sit on an elevated parcel of land that ensures each guestroom will offer sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The resort will include a Hyatt-signature pool and recreation area, also overlooking the ocean. Additionally, guests will have direct beach access provided by a pedestrian bridge adjacent to the hotel. Hyatt Regency Grand Coast Resort is slated for a September 2002 completion. This is another excellent example of how participation in selected development projects have helped us expand the brand, said Scott Miller, president, Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Hyatt Regency Grand Coast Resort is the sixth new Hyatt Resort added to our portfolio in just three years. Hyatt Regency Grand Coast Resort will include two restaurants, a retail shopping plaza and 52,000 square feet of indoor meeting space. Most meeting space will be located within a dedicated conference center, which will include an exhibition hall and a 20,000 square foot divisible grand ballroom with a panoramic ocean view. There will also be significant outdoor function space including an expansive ocean-view lawn intended for outdoor weddings, parties and receptions. Guestroom design features a relaxed Andalusian theme, with a large percentage of rooms configured as luxury suites. Adding to the exquisite Spa Hyatt collection, the resort will offer a 20,000 square foot Pacific Waters Spa, which will provide treatments and preparations indigenous to Pacific Island cultures. Currently, there are 19 Spa Hyatt destinations that offer indigenous spa experiences, which cultivate a spirit of healing and well-being for both body and mind. There are 201 Hyatt Hotels and Resorts around the world. Hyatt International
Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates 59 hotels and 22 resorts
