The 42 story Palms Casino Resort Development in
Las Vegas Is On Budget and On Schedule

LAS VEGAS - June 7, 2001-- Perini Building Co., a division of Perini Corp. (AMEX: PCR), celebrated the topping-off of the Palms Casino Resort Thursday by placing the last beam and the resort's signature hurricane palm tree on the 42-story hotel tower.

As of this construction milestone, Perini is on budget and on schedule.
"We plan to deliver the project, as promised, in December of this year," said Pat Hubbs, project manager for Perini Building Co.

Perini was awarded the $132 million construction contract by the Maloof family. Perini broke ground on Oct. 24, 2000.

"Our next construction milestone and most complex portion of the project is to enclose the top eight stories of the hotel in glass," stated Hubbs.

These floors are clad in blue/green tinted glass designed to resemble the curved edge of a palm frond.  Custom exterior neon signs, also designed as palms, will illuminate the hotel at night. The neon lights are computer generated to change colors in sequence.

One of the glass enclosed floors is designed with a glass-rail balcony overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.  The entire floor will house an upscale restaurant and night club. The name has yet to be released by the Maloof family. Alize French restaurant also encompasses one of the upper floors.

The resort covers 22.5 acres of the 32-acre site it sits on. When complete, approximately 60,000 cubic yards of concrete will have been poured. That is equivalent to 18 miles of sidewalk five feet wide or enough concrete to pave both sides of the Strip three times.

The hotel tower has 455 oversized guest rooms and suites. Other structures under construction are a multi-use entertainment venue, 14 theaters and an IMAX theater, seven restaurants, a 10,000 sq. ft.  banquet and conference facility, an 18,000 sq. ft. spa and salon which overlooks a resort-style swimming pool. The Palms features a 95,000 sq. ft. casino with 2,200 slot machines.

The casino is an architectural statement unto itself. It is designed to be flowing with no corners or straight lines.

There have been as many as 600 workers on site at one time consisting of 40 different subcontractors.

"Hitting our targeted milestones on such an aggressive schedule is a tribute to all of the subcontractors and vendors on the job. Truly, the speed and quality that we build structures here in Las Vegas is unmatched anywhere in the country," concluded Hubbs.

KGA Architecture is the executive architect for the Palms Casino Resort. The Los Angeles based, urban planning and architecture firm, The Jerde Partnership International, is the project's master planner and design architect for the exterior and interior of the main casino.
