The 503-room, $95 million, Sheraton Grand
Sacramento Opens with Starwood Managing
the Hotel Under the Sheraton Brand

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., April 25, 2001 - Official ribbon cutting ceremonies were held yesterday for the long-awaited, 503-room Sheraton Grand Sacramento. The $95 million property is owned by the Sacramento Hotel Corporation and developed by Public Market Building, LLC. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) was selected to manage the hotel under the Sheraton brand.

The opening of the Sheraton Grand Sacramento is very much a winning combination as it combines a highly-desirable location in the heart of Sacramentos downtown business district with the rebirth of the historic Public Market Building, remarked Norman MacLeod, executive vice president of operations for Starwood. We are proud to add another California property to our Sheraton portfolio. Starwood now owns, manages or franchises 54 hotels in California including 17 Sheratons.

Previously regarded as a city with limited conference space and hotel guestrooms, the Sheraton Grand fills a neglected void within the state capitals meetings and tourism market. The highlight of the 503-room, four-diamond quality hotel is the restored Public Market Building. Located adjacent to the 26-story hotel tower, the market building was originally designed in 1923 by renowned architect Julia Morgan, who also designed Hearst Castle.

The San Francisco-based architectural firm, Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, Inc. has successfully preserved the historical design by maintaining the exterior walls and facades of the original Market. To stay compatible with this original look, architects featured masonry and stone treatments on the first four floors of the contemporary hotel tower by borrowing pieces from the market to
complement the older buildings design.

This residential look and feel to the property is in line with Sheratons new style guestroom which are featured in all rooms and 27 suites. Our customers told us they wanted a hotel room that felt more like a private home and these new rooms are designed for both work and rest, explains Al Petrone, vice president of operations for Starwood. The new guestrooms feature Sheratons signature Sleigh Bed with pillow-top mattress, cozy bedside chairs, an oversized desk with ergonomic chair and in-room Internet access.

The property also features a full-service business center, fitness facility, ballroom, Club Level floors with exclusive concierge lounge, and two restaurants. Guests will enjoy the benefits of the Starwood Preferred Guest program where Starpoints are earned for every hotel stay with no redemption blackout dates at Starwoods more than 725 hotels worldwide.

Located at the corner of 13th and J Streets, adjacent to the Convention Center and a block from the State Capital, this property is a long-awaited addition to the downtown business district and has added over 300 jobs to the Sacramento area. The Sacramento International Airport is located just fifteen minutes from the hotel.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT - news) is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with more than 725 properties in 80 countries and 120,000 employees at its owned and managed properties.
