SVP Investments Assigns OHANA Hotels of Hawaii the
Management Contract for the Maui Islander Hotel
in Lahaina, Maui from Aston Hotels & Resorts

HONOLULU, OAHU, HAWAII - April 9, 2001 - Only a year and a half after introducing OHANA Hotels of Hawaii to Waikiki, parent company Outrigger Enterprises, Inc., is announcing its first Neighbor Island OHANA property. Under a new management contract, OHANA Hotels will take over management of the Maui Islander Hotel in Lahaina, Maui from Aston Hotels & Resorts on May 1, 2001, renaming it the OHANA Maui Islander.

OHANA Hotels has successfully addressed the issue of clean and affordable lodging in Waikiki and the OHANA Maui Islander is the next logical step for expanding the new brand to the Neighbor Islands, said David Carey, President and CEO of Outrigger Enterprises.  Before the introduction of OHANA, there wasnt a clear, recognizable brand specifically dedicated to offering clean and affordable lodging in Hawaii. Now we are proud to offer the travel community quality accommodations not only in Waikiki but in the historical town of Lahaina.

Located in the heart of Lahaina Town on Wainee Street, the 360-room OHANA Maui Islander is just steps from the restaurants, shops and activities of lively Front Street. Offering a wide variety of room configurations - ranging from single rooms, to studios with kitchenettes, to one-, two- and three-bedroom suites - the OHANA Maui Islander can easily accommodate any sized group, from families to athletic teams traveling with coaches, managers, and fans. The propertys amenities include a pool, lighted tennis courts, and barbecues.

After only a year and a half, OHANA is recognized as the brand of choice for moderately priced accommodations in Waikiki, said Bitsy Kelley, Director of Brand and Business Development for OHANA Hotels. We aim to make this true for the Neighbor Islands as well, where OHANA Hotels will make it possible for travelers to visit attractive and entertaining destinations like Lahaina at a more affordable price.

Bill Henderson, Outriggers senior vice president of business development, said, Adding OHANAs first Neighbor Island property is a nice progression from Waikiki. Because of its location and amenities, the Maui Islander is the perfect OHANA property, and we are excited about future growth opportunities for OHANA in Hawaii and beyond.

Outrigger Enterprises was selected to manage the Maui Islander by its owner, SVP Investments, a San Diego-based private equity firm with extensive real estate holdings in Hawaii, California, Arizona and elsewhere in the U.S.  The companys asset portfolio consists of office buildings, hotels, apartments, raw land, quick serve restaurants, retail and industrial/commercial properties.

OHANAs expansion to Maui adds to Outriggers already diverse Neighbor Island travel options. As little as seven years ago, the company did not have a presence on Maui. The OHANA Maui Islander will bring the total of Outrigger properties on Maui to six, with a total of more than 1,400 rooms.  Outriggers other Maui properties include the newly renovated Outrigger Wailea Resort, and Outriggers selection of resort condominiums - the Royal Kahana Resort, which Outrigger will assume management of on May 1, the Maui Eldorado Resort, Napili Shores Resort condominium and the Palms at Wailea Resort.

According to David Carey, the OHANA brand was introduced by Outrigger Enterprises a little over a year ago to address the companys growing inventory of diverse accommodations. With the successful expansion of the Outrigger name into full-service upscale resorts in Hawaii and the Pacific, we needed a clearer identity for our moderately priced hotels in Waikiki, said Carey. Many visitors still seek a value-oriented, clean and simple family atmosphere, in the tradition created by our companys founder, Roy Kelley. To continue this legacy, we created the OHANA brand.

Fifteen of Outriggers existing moderately priced hotels in Waikiki were rebranded with the OHANA name on December 19, 1999, offering friendly, reliable service, comfortable and well-maintained hotel rooms, great rates and a simplified approach to pricing.

OHANA Hotels of Hawaii, Waikikis largest hotel operator with nearly 5,000 guest rooms, is a division of Outrigger Hotels & Resorts, the largest lodging company in Hawaii and one of the fastest-growing lodging companies in the Pacific. Under its Outrigger and OHANA brand names, the company currently operates or has under development 38 hotels and resort condominiums throughout the Pacific region, representing more than 11,000 hotel rooms and condominium units in Hawaii, Micronesia, Australia and the South Pacific. Outriggers affiliate, Outrigger Lodging Services, manages nearly two dozen hotels and resorts throughout the U.S. mainland.
