Microtel Inn and Suites to open next week
A new hotel is set to open in South Middleton Township.
The Microtel Inn and Suites on Westminster Drive will open Wednesday, according to general manager Charles Heinze. Online reservations are already being accepted.
The 83-room, three-story hotel sits on 5 acres. Heinze said the location provides access to Interstate 81 and is in close proximity to the Carlisle Airport and the U.S. Army War College.
Heinze said he was excited to officially open the doors.
Beacon Management Associates will run the hotel in conjunction with Carlisle Investment Properties LLC.
"That hotel, in my mind, fills a vacuum in that area. I think this is a big plus (for the township)," Township Supervisor Tom Faley said.
The final land development plan for the hotel had been approved about a year ago and the township waived the requirement for a traffic study since officials did not feel traffic would be an issue with the hotel, Faley said.
Faley told The Sentinel in September that since the hotel will not offer food service, developers were required to install a sidewalk running from the hotel to the nearby Rite Aid. Developers received a waiver to install a 3-foot-wide sidewalk, rather than the required 5 feet, to avoid issues with right of way on adjacent private land.
The hotel was supposed to open on Nov. 1, according to the developers. That opening was delayed as the developers awaited the completion of elevator inspections, Heinze said.
A formal ribbon cutting sponsored by the Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Jan. 16, Heinze said.
