Now available from a single provider, RoomKey powered by Ve-Go mobile app completes the mobile experience with integration of Mobile Key to mobile check-in/-out and room selection
Los Angeles - OCTOBER 14, 2014 - OpenWays and Ve-Go Technologies Inc. announce hospitality's first comprehensive mobile guest engagement tool that takes travelers "from reservations to rooms" with just a touch. Developed as a mobile travel agent (MTA), Ve-Go's RoomKey solution is enabling travelers to use their mobile devices to not only make hotel reservations, but also select rooms, check-in/-out, receive their bill, and virtually control their entire stay. By integrating OpenWays' Mobile Key with the RoomKey platform, guests can now complete their journeys to bypass the front desk and zip to their rooms using the app to also unlock their room doors.
"There is a lot of talk in the industry about the mobile guest experience and using guest-facing apps for check in and receiving room keys," said Peter Klebanoff, OpenWays senior vice president, business development. "What people don't realize, is that without adding the Mobile Key component -- whereby hotels upgrade existing locks with OpenWays' multi-technology platform including Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE), Near Field Communication (NFC), RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) or Crypto Acoustic Credential (CAC™) technologies to securely deliver the room key over the air to guests' mobile phones -- a true mobile check-in experience doesn't exist. The reason that travelers choose a mobile experience is to actually get them to their final destinations -- their rooms -- without being inconvenienced along the way by stopping at a kiosk or the front desk to obtain plastic room keys. This is the first solution of its kind that is taking the mobile guest experience full circle, from reservations to rooms, with no delays."
Vikas Bhakta, Ve-Go Technologies founder and CEO, concurred with Klebanoff, and said that in order to offer a compelling mobile check-in solution, along with PMS-integration and room selection, an embedded mobile key must be included. Key to implementation success, he said, is the partnerships between the mobile app developer, the mobile key provider and the property-management system supplier.
"Our newly-released RoomKey solution is the complete mobile package hoteliers and guests have been asking for, and today it's available from a single provider," Bhakta said. "Several brands have announced this type of solution, but to date, they have not made it a reality. We selected OpenWays as the Mobile Key component because of its superior technology, highly-secure encryption standards, and ability to keep existing locks and simply upgrade them by adding the OpenWays module with no drilling to protect the integrity of the door and preserve the fire rating. It's an inexpensive and cost-effective way to add this much-needed, end-to-end Mobile Key component to the mobile check-in process and build a competitive advantage at the same time. As a hotelier myself, owning two Hampton Inns, I appreciate the convenience and affordability of this upgrade capability.
"Ve-Go is delighted to provide a complete mobile solution to upscale, independent hotels through our partnership with OpenWays," he said. "Together we are pioneering a true mobile guest experience and setting a new standard for hospitality."
RoomKey + Mobile Key = Happy Guests
RoomKey was developed by Ve-Go to equip front desk staff with more time to engage with valued guests and provides travelers the ability to manage their own expectations by giving them options in deciding how they wish to experience each hotel. Travelers looking to stay at a RoomKey-equipped hotel are encouraged to download the RoomKey app from the App Store: appsto.re/us/DhiaO.i. The app can be used immediately to book a room, select a room and receive easy check in. On the day of arrival, the mobile key icon next to the displayed room number will be activated. Guests simply proceed directly to their rooms upon arrival and touch the key icon to securely unlock their room doors.
"By adding the OpenWays Mobile Key to Ve-Go's RoomKey solution, we are further enabling hotel guests to make the most out of their stays by streamlining the arrival process and making room access more convenient and secure," Klebanoff said. "Helping hoteliers operate in a more sustainable fashion is an added bonus; because a mobile key is made only of data, it's the greenest key on the planet. Together, Ve-Go and OpenWays are working to deliver secure mobile-engagement solutions that enhance the guest experience, drive customer loyalty, and protect the environment."
OpenWays is the most advanced and comprehensive Mobile Key solution provider in the world. Any of the 7 billion cell phones on the market (any network/any carrier) are compatible with Mobile Key by OpenWays and RoomKey powered by OpenWays. The company uses the same high-security encryption standards employed by banks and governments. Mobile Key by OpenWays can embed its decryption and communications technologies into most major electronic locks to offer a more technologically, mechanically and aesthetically robust and uniform offering, often at a more economical price point.
