SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA (September 3, 2020)  – Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, an Autograph Collection Hotel, opens its doors today in the storied city of San Juan Capistrano in Southern California. The hotel joins the brand’s diverse and dynamic portfolio of more than 198 hotels around the world that are independent, one-of-a-kind and champion values of vision, design and craft.

Located in the heart of historic downtown San Juan Capistrano, just steps away from the awe-inspiring ruins of Mission San Juan Capistrano, Inn at The Mission celebrates the history and style of authentic California and balances new moments of discovery and tradition amid four acres of lush landscaping. Within it, the hotel offers an expansive outdoor patio overlooking the Great Stone Church, resort-style pool and spa, over 40,000 square feet of master-planned indoor and outdoor event space including an Olive Grove, and multiple dining options with expansive outdoor seating.

HISTORY

The birthplace of Orange County, San Juan Capistrano has been home to many over its 240-plus years – from the indigenous Acjachemen people and the iconic Cliff Swallows that make their annual return, to thousands of culture seekers who visit every year. With a rich history, the Mission San Juan Capistrano continues to be a centerpiece for the city and a location for hospitality that is embodied throughout the hotel. Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano’s swallow logo is a signature that can be seen property-wide, representing the convergence of old and new, water and life and heart and soul. The harmonious birds are a part of the fabric of San Juan Capistrano where their return is celebrated annually.

DESIGN

Designed by Kay Lang + Associates, the heartfelt-designed property stays true to the style of the Mission San Juan Capistrano, emulating old Spain with three distinct types of architecture including Adobe, Monterey and Spanish Revival. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by their first sighting of the iconic Cliff Swallows, along with thick corbel ceiling beams and glass bells that represent a modern interpretation to the Mission’s bells. With historic and modern twists of artwork throughout creating a balance between old and new, Inn at The Mission San Juan Capistrano’s design creates a sense of romance and a recall to Spanish architecture.

ACCOMMODATION

Inn at The Mission San Juan Capistrano features 125 hacienda-inspired guest rooms with seven luxury suites including three residential-style villas. Guests rooms are between 360-380 sq.ft, offering high ceilings, mission-style grand armories, chandeliers, many with private balconies. Spacious suites range from 500-880 sq.ft with rich textures and warm tones that set the scene in the separate living area of the Studio, One Bedroom, or Luxury Suite. Residential-style villas of 650-880 sq. ft  feature 10-foot transom ceilings, hardwood flooring, decorative Spanish-style tiling and kitchenette with a microwave, mini-fridge and sink, with options to entertain in the privacy of a separate living room or 120 sq. ft. terrace, appointed with either a fireplace or an outdoor fire pit.

CULINARY

A carefully crafted culinary program led by Executive Chef Aaron Obregon is driven by locally sourced ingredients to create a modern twist on classic Spanish favorites. Spain meets California at signature restaurant, Ysidora Restaurant and Lounge, where guests and locals can indulge in wood-fired meats and vegetables, and craft cocktails with ingredients such as local honey and freshly pressed juices. El Café Real coffee house features La Colombe specialty coffees in a market style format with grab and go meals.  Both Ysidora and El Café Real offer expansive open-air outdoor seating to enjoy meals, drinks, and good company among citrus trees, the Olive Grove, and verdant foliage surrounding the hotel.

OLIVE GROVE

Nestled among four acres of lush landscaping with meandering paths throughout, Inn at The Mission San Juan Capistrano features an Olive Grove and large outdoor deck overlooking the Great Stone Church. The presence of the grove is felt throughout Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, whether through experiences such as an olive oil-based body scrub at the spa, an olive oil tasting at the restaurant or the sensory retreat of the grove itself complete with twinkling lanterns and firepits. In partnership with California-grown Nuvo Oil, Inn at The Mission San Juan Capistrano has produced their own olive oil, Reverence Private Label EVOO, which can be exclusively experienced and purchased on property.

SPA AT THE MISSION

Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano looks forward to welcoming guests to their 2,500-square-foot Spa at the Mission, in January 2021. With four dedicated treatment rooms for massages, facials and rejuvenating body treatments, services will utilize natural oils infused with on-site herbs such as lemon and basil. The spa will offer limitless opportunities for transformative experiences and rituals that invoke a deep emotional response for the body, mind and soul. Additional wellness offerings will include various gardens for guests to relax and unwind, as well as an immersive, soothing wall of chiming bells for meditation.

MEETINGS AND WEDDINGS

The property features over 40,000 sq. ft. of master-planned indoor and outdoor event space for future meetings, weddings and corporate events. With 18 unique event rooms, spectacular event spaces include the manicured East Lawn or the sun-drenched patio overlooking the Great Stone Church. Hacienda style decor and natural light provide an ideal destination for intimate board meetings that foster productivity with state-of-the-art meeting amenities, including cutting-edge audio visual services. A picturesque wedding destination includes the indoor Catalan Room and Los Olivos spaces, and the outdoor Olive Grove and Landmark Courtyard. A short drive off-property sits Serra Plaza, a breathtaking Spanish style space – tree lined with graceful arches, adobe style walls and a trickling fountain.

COMMITMENT TO CLEAN

Inn at The Mission San Juan Capistrano is operating with enhanced health and safety standards in accordance with Marriott’s Commitment to Clean. With in-house and outside experts in food and water safety, hygiene and infection prevention, and hotel operations, the Marriott Cleanliness Council is redefining cleaning and safety standards. Hand sanitizing stations are installed upon entrance, at front desks, in hallways, dining areas, elevator banks, and meeting spaces. Signage in public spaces remind guests to maintain social distancing. Mobile app provides reassurance and distancing options for guests so your phone can be used to check in, access your room, and order room service. Marriott is cleaning public spaces and high-traffic areas, with increased frequency, dedicated staff, and recommended cleaning agents. In guest rooms, there are elevated rigorous protocols to thoroughly clean all surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectants, and housekeeping is placing disinfecting wipes in each room for guest use. Marriott is rolling out enhanced technologies including electrostatic sprayers to sanitize surfaces throughout the hotel,  and is also testing ultraviolet light technology for sanitizing guest keys and devices shared by associates.
