Located on the island of Sumba in Eastern Indonesia, the leading luxury resort Nihiwatu is delighted to announce its re-opening as well as the appointment of Carla Petzold-Beck as the new General Manager, effective March 2015.

Ms Petzold-Beck joins Nihiwatu from Belmond La Residence in Siem Reap, a 5-star 62-room property where she was based for two years. Prior to this, Carla was General Manager of renowned Balinese hotel The Legian.

With over 15 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, Ms Petzold-Beck’s career spans three continents; born in Switzerland to a family of hoteliers, Carla was raised in Singapore and educated in the USA. Upon completing her undergraduate degree at Cornell’s Hotel School, Ms Petzold-Beck has immersed herself in various cultures, leading her to reach her first General Manager post in Nicaragua at the age of 30. Fluent in four languages, Ms Petzold-Beck has a passion for the outdoors and is a keen mountain biker and diver.

James McBride, Managing Partner of Nihiwatu says: “We are delighted to welcome Carla to Nihiwatu and have every confidence that with her wealth of experience, she will build on the existing foundations of the resort and continue to deliver unique, world-class experiences for all our guests.”

Nihiwatu reopened on 15th March 2015 following maintenance and refurbishment. At the same time, the resort partnered with The Leading Hotels of the World to further enhance its philanthropic endeavours through the Sumba Foundation. Carla is in charge of all management and operational responsibilities for Nihiwatu, as well as overseeing the opening of a new unique Nihi Oka Spa Safari Experience and the unveiling of three new villa estates over the coming months, bringing the resort total to 32 villas.
