Seattle, Wash. (June 2, 2016)Thompson Hotels today proudly announces the opening of Thompson Seattle – the brand’s first property to open in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. Located adjacent to the iconic Pike Place Market, the boutique hotel, which has a culinary partnership with nationally-acclaimed Huxley Wallace Collective restaurant group, serves as a contemporary landmark against the backdrop of Seattle’s natural beauty—ultimately creating  an indelible impression on the downtown hospitality landscape.

A luxury hotel with a refined edge, Thompson Seattle features 158 mid-century modern guest rooms - including eight corner studios and two suites - a signature restaurant, a rooftop bar and lounge with sweeping views of the placid Puget Sound and Olympic Mountain Range, and more than 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.

“Everything about Thompson Seattle is infused with the same pride and craftsmanship that give Seattle its alluring character,” said Commune Hotels & Resorts CEO Niki Leondakis. "We were driven to create a hotel that seamlessly combines the sophisticated, residential style that Thompson Hotels is known for with elements inspired by Seattle's aviation heritage and magnificent vistas of the breathtaking surrounding landscape."

Unique Design Blends Modernity with Artisanal Craftsmanship

Fine craftsmanship and sleek design are apparent throughout Thompson Seattle. Olson Kundig, the internationally-acclaimed and award-winning Seattle firm, conceived the architectural design for the 12-story luxury hotel. Set against the backdrop of a vibrant downtown scene, Thompson Seattle features an iconic glass lantern structure with two adjoining solid façades that integrate naturally with the surrounding urban landscape.

“In response to Thompson Seattle’s location at a major shift in the city’s street grid, we were presented with a unique opportunity to mark this significant intersection and explore the connection between large public views and more intimate personal views,” said Tom Kundig, Owner and Design Principal of Olson Kundig.

The floor-to-ceiling glass exterior serves as an inviting, luminous façade that blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor and evokes a sense of visual accessibility. Design firm Studio Munge, in collaboration with, Jensen Fey applied a minimalistic approach to harmonize surface finishes, including exposed steel and concrete, with an eclectic blend of modern and vintage furniture and fixtures of reclaimed woods. Artwork, wood shelving details and architectural lighting fixtures throughout the public spaces and guest rooms were sourced from local artisans and paired with sumptuous textiles of mohair and rich leathers to bring the property to life with an authentic sense of location.

Breathtaking Views, Exceptional Culinary Experiences

Thompson Seattle’s contemporary guestrooms and suites offer unrivaled views of the Puget Sound and surrounding Olympic Mountains. Each room offers a different vantage point of the city and is equipped with custom furniture, imparting every space with a distinctive character.  Guestrooms feature specially made 400-thread-count SFERRA linens, complimentary Wi-Fi access, a 42-inch Samsung Smart TV with movie library, and marble bathroom with a state-of-the-art rain shower and D.S. & Durga bath amenities.

A signature restaurant and rooftop cocktail lounge offer a rich array of Pacific Northwestern cuisine and inventive cocktails operated by locally-loved and nationally-acclaimed Huxley Wallace Collective under the helm of Executive Chef Josh Henderson. Thompson Seattle’s day-to-night restaurant Scout highlights locally-sourced items such as shellfish from the Puget Sound, wild mushrooms foraged from the Cascade Mountains, and grass-fed beef from the eastern farmlands. Scout will feature a Chef’s Counter serving cutting-edge courses incorporating the region’s freshest, seasonal and sometimes out-of-the-box ingredients. The Nest, the hotel’s stunning rooftop bar and lounge, is set to be a nightlife destination offering handcrafted cocktails and small shareable plates. Opening as the highest hotel rooftop bar and lounge in Seattle, The Nest welcomes patrons with unobstructed views of the city and natural scenery in an outdoor living room aesthetic complete with warming fire pits and engaging seating environments. The bar program will offer neat pours and seasonal batched and barrel-aged cocktails, as well as a custom “ice program” designed to showcase the flavor notes of each cocktail. Both culinary venues and room service, as directed by Executive Chef Derek Simcik, will offer tableside cart experiences designed to create a more intimate connection with the guest – from oyster shucking and mixology carts, to carts feature carving stations and built-in induction burners for live cooking.

Expansive meeting and event spaces make Thompson Seattle the premier choice for meeting planners or brides and grooms-to-be. More than 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space with floor-to-ceiling windows can be configured to suit every occasion. Event locations Grasshopper and Dreamliner can be combined to host a reception for up to 150 people, while The Nest rooftop can accommodate up to 250 people.

“We’re proud to open Thompson Seattle as a hotel deeply connected to the energy of the city,” said Amanda Parsons, General Manager of Thompson Seattle. “The property is a labor of love, and our partners and I hope to see the hotel become a destination where guests and neighbors gather to share stories and adventures as well as create memories.”
