Study shows 61% of guests want to select their room from a property map, but only 6% of hotels offer it; Integration partners MyCheck and Lokion plan to change that immediately

[New York – October 31, 2017] MyCheck, a leading provider of mobile payment platform solutions for hotels, announces that it has partnered with digital mapping and customer-engagement strategy specialist Lokion to enable travelers to select the hotel rooms they prefer during the online or mobile booking process. Properties equipped with MyHotel from MyCheck can now add Aegir Maps from Lokion to enable pick-your-own-room functionality, as well as wayfinding throughout the hotel. Room selection via digital mapping is accessible through multiple devices and platforms when using MyHotel with Aegir Maps.

MyHotel facilitates a digital check-in/-out stay experience. The system enables guests to check in, choose rooms via Aegir Maps, request upgrades, receive room status alerts, view their folio, pay using mobile wallet, and check out using their laptops, tablets or smartphones. Hoteliers manage this by adding a mobile widget to their existing website, mobile web and/or app. Lokion is the technology partner behind the Hilton Worldwide Digital Check-In with Room Selection program, hospitality’s first and most successful room mapping deployment.

“Travelers who enjoy selecting their own airline seats while booking flights will likely choose hotels that allow them to hand-pick their rooms vs. those that don’t,” said Cyndi Shepley, MyCheck VP of Sales. “Rather than missing out on a room facing the ocean or overlooking the pool because the guest had to wait in line to check at the front desk, people can select the exact room they want long before their travel journey begins. Why risk getting a room next to the elevator or above the noisy ballroom or parking garage? For hotels looking to improve guest satisfaction scores by adding guest-engagement technologies in 2018, MyHotel with Aegir Maps is a smart investment.”

Tal Nathanel, MyCheck CEO, said that in addition to facilitating room selection, MyHotel with Aegir Maps is equipped with wayfinding functionality.

“This integrated system will show guests how to find their rooms, an event, retail outlets and outdoor facilities with just a touch,” Nathanel said. “In the future, we plan to leverage the Aegir geolocation technology to add mobile key integration and other functionality to MyHotel.”

According to Hospitality Technology's 2017 Customer Engagement Technology Study:

  • 61% of guests said they want to select their room from a property map, but only 6% of hotels currently offer this service; 56% of guests said they want to view property maps in general, but only 30% provide them
  • 62% of hotels plan to add digital signage/wayfinding in 2018 as part of their guest-engagement technology adoption plan
  • 57% of guests search for hotels with location-based integration; only 37% of hotels provide it
  • 46% of guests say they prefer to stay at a hotel that takes mobile payments; Only 16% offer it today

What guests want; What hoteliers need “We met MyCheck at HITEC 2017 and quickly realized the synergies between our two guest-engagement technology offerings,” said Marcus Stafford, Lokion President and Founding Partner. “Travelers want more control over their journey. That means more self-service options such as picking their own room or choosing which credit card they pay with. Together, MyHotel and Aegir equip hoteliers to increase satisfaction and secure loyalty by delivering those personalized experiences guests already expect.”
