NEW YORK / JUNE 26, 2019 – Hot! Hot! Hot! MCR, the sixth-largest hotel owner-operator in the United States, has acquired the 110-room Residence Inn by Marriott Albuquerque Airport. Just 5 miles southeast of downtown, the property is close to many of the city’s sizzling destinations for work and play.

New Mexico is known for its Hatch chiles: the carne adovada, a slow-cooked pork dish in red chile sauce, is legendary at Albuquerque’s Mary & Tito’s Café, though you’ll even find green chiles at McDonald’s! Yet these days what’s heating up the Duke City is the arrival of tech companies. Netflix recently purchased ABQ Studios, a production studio complex less than 7 miles from the Residence Inn Albuquerque Airport. Facebook’s Los Lunas Data Center has also opened nearby and will become the company’s largest data center once an expansion is completed in 2023.

While “red or green?” (as in peppers) may be New Mexico’s official state question, there’s no debating the blue skies over Albuquerque are one of the coolest places to be. Hot air ballooning is available year-round, but from October 5 through 13, the city hosts the annual International Balloon Fiesta, which attracts more than 1 million people.

Want to stay grounded? Whether you’re in the area to visit The Kirtland Air Force Base, the University of New Mexico or Sandia National Laboratories, there’s plenty of scenic sizzle around Albuquerque. Blaze a trail to Petroglyph National Monument, where the volcanic rocks are covered with centuries-old carvings by Native Americans and Spanish settlers, then take in more local history at the Jemez Historic Site. After that, heat-seekers who want to soak in another classic Southwest moment can venture to the Jemez Hot Springs (Home of the Giggling Springs), where the geothermal water pools are known for their soothing powers.

Back in the city, there’s more natural beauty to be found at The Turquoise Castle, the new 8,000-square-foot home of the Turquoise Museum, which is filled with stunning jewelry and rare examples of the precious rocks — including one that resembles George Washington! For red-hot events, head to the National Hispanic Cultural Center for ongoing exhibits, classes and films.

“We’re fired up to be part of the Albuquerque scene,” says Tyler Morse, CEO and Managing Partner of MCR and MORSE Development.
