Christian Abbate, formerly director at CBRE Hotels and vice president of PKF Consulting Houston’s office, has been named senior vice president in charge of DPC Hospitality’s new advisory and valuation practices

HOUSTON, TX (March 8, 2018) – DP Consulting, a Houston firm well known in the hospitality industry for completing feasibility studies for hotel operators and municipalities across the southwest, has created a new identity while branching out into new service areas.

Now known as DPC Hospitality, the firm has added Christian Abbate, formerly director at CBRE Hotels and vice president of PKF Consulting Houston’s office, where he will serve as senior vice president in charge of DPC Hospitality’s new advisory and valuation practices, an area ripe for growth as hotels in the Houston area go through the reappraisal process in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Among the firm’s other new capabilities are hotel repositioning studies, brand impact studies, asset management and other pre-development advisory services. It also started providing hotel occupancy tax projections to aid public entities in the forecasting of hotel tax revenues.

“We’re the science behind all the numbers that hotel owners and developers can shop to investors and lending sources,” explains David Parker, a veteran hospitality professional who founded DPC Hospitality in 2001. “We are also engaged by municipalities and economic development groups to evaluate the impact of a new hotel on a city’s tax base.”

Looking ahead, Parker says the firm expects the continued emergence of smaller, soft brands such as Marriott’s Autograph Collection, Curio Collection by Hilton and others as larger, established names in the hotel business look to re-position existing properties where there might be an abundance of an existing brand.

He also sees a big movement toward dual- and tri-branded properties, particularly in urban infill settings where land costs are prohibitive for single-branded hotel projects. A greater emphasis on hotels in mixed-use settings also is expected.

Combined, the principals of DPC Hospitality have completed more than 500 assignments covering hotel projects ranging from limited service to conference centers and resort hotels. While the majority of the firm’s experience is in Texas and the surrounding states, DPC Hospitality is capable of covering assignments across the United States.
