Nov. 08–Construction is now underway on the new Home2Suites by Hilton in Holland Township.

The new hotel will be located at 2990 West Shore Dr., south of Riley Street off of U.S.-31 and is expected to feature 109 suites.

So far, the foundation has been laid and construction on the infrastructure is underway as construction workers begin to erect the building.

In a March article, Ursala Roman, manager of Brand Public Relations for Hilton, said the project was expected to start in mid-June 2017. The goal was then to open the location in September 2018.

Due to the delay in the ground breaking, Roman said the opening date has been pushed to Oct. 31, 2018, but that date is subject to change.

The location will be a franchised location so employee numbers have not been released at this time but Roman said that generally for a hotel of that size, it could take up to 25 employees to get it up and running. Roman said the company also does not show a general manager listed for the property or a management company to contact.

According to the Home2Suites by Hilton fact sheet, the hotel will include lifestyle-focused amenities with separate living and bedroom space. Each room will also feature a kitchen with seating for six and a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven and coffee maker.

The working/media zone in the rooms will include a full-size sleeper sofa, flatscreen HDTV, additional storage and furniture.

First reported in July 2016, the site of the location remained untouched for about a year. At that time, it was reported that the new hotel would be pet-friendly.

The U.S.-31 corridor has become a hotspot for hotels and on Feb. 8, it was reported that Nelis' Dutch Village was selling property on the south side of James Street to Staybridge Suites and the ultimate plan was to build two 100-plus room extended stay hotels.
