Crosland, LLC, Chartwell Hospitality and Alta Financial Services Celebrate Groundbreaking of SouthPark Hotel

Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites will be first SouthPark hotel built since 1998

September 30, 2015 – Longtime developers Crosland, LLC, and Alta Financial Services, part of the Allen Tate Family of Companies, celebrated the groundbreaking of the Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites Charlotte SouthPark at a ceremony earlier today. Crosland and Tate have partnered with Chartwell Hospitality, based in Nashville, Tenn., to develop the hotels. The project will be built on a 3.65-acre parcel off Sharon Road, directly behind Sharon Corners Shopping Center, formerly the site of Old Towne Apartments.

The six-story, 270-room, dual-branded hotel to be operated by Chartwell Hospitality will be the first built in the SouthPark area since Hampton Inn & Suites at Phillips Place, which opened in 1998. The Hilton Garden Inn will include 160 rooms and the Homewood Suites will include 110 suites. The hotel is expected to open in late 2016.

“We’re excited to break ground on this project, which fills a strong demand for new hotel rooms in the growing SouthPark area,” said Adam Ford, general manager of Crosland. “With its close proximity to SouthPark mall, businesses and restaurants – as well as easy access to the airport and Uptown – the hotel will attract both business and leisure travelers.”

Designed by high-end hotel architectural firm Rabun Architects of Atlanta, the hotel will feature a classic traditional exterior with brick, cast stone, oversized windows and a steep-pitch gabled roof with substantial cupolas. The hotel was carefully designed and customized to connect with the SouthPark area’s high-end design style.

“The new Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites Charlotte SouthPark will reflect the demographic of the SouthPark area, with amenities and services that appeal to travelers coming here to shop, play or conduct business,” said Allen Tate III, president of Alta Financial Services.

Amenities include a grand-scale high-design lobby, large lounge and bar overlooking the central courtyard and pool, a courtyard terrace as an open-air extension of the lobby, an open-air resort-style pool, an HGI Restaurant and a Homewood Restaurant, 3,200 square feet of meeting space, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a freestanding two-level parking deck.

Kansas-based Crossland Construction is overseeing construction of the hotel, and Chartwell Hospitality will be the hotel’s management group. Civil engineering and landscape design are by LandDesign in Charlotte. Other investors include Hines Capital Partners.

“This project is a testament to the quality organizations of Allen Tate and Crosland,” said Charlotte City Council Member Kenny Smith. “The vision of these two organizations will help transform SouthPark for the next 50 years. I only wish Mr. Tate and Mr. Crosland could witness the next phase in this history as they were so instrumental 50 years ago when they invested in this submarket.”

In the past, Crosland and Allen Tate have collaborated on a number of high-profile projects, including retail centers at Sharon Corners and Foxcroft East as well as the Foxcroft and Kingswood residential communities.
