Orlando, Florida, April 2014-The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has won a Bronze Telly in the 35th annual Telly Awards, which honors outstanding production in the field of video, for its “Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively® (CARE) for Servers” training video. EI has been awarded more than 16 bronze Tellys and one Silver Telly in the area of Corporate Training as finalists in this annual award competition. The competition had nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries.

The “Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively® for Servers” video was filmed at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The video, which is part of EI’s revised CARE responsible alcohol service training seminar, features several new training scenarios as well as updated versions of alcohol service scenarios presented in the earlier version of the program. Watch a preview here.

CARE for Servers is a one-day seminar that prepares servers with the proper knowledge of how to handle the challenges of responsible alcohol service. During the program servers learn to:

  • Effectively monitor and control guests’ alcohol consumption
  • Tactfully intervene before problems arise
  • Carry out their establishment’s ID-checking policies and spot false identification
  • Handle minors according to their operation’s specific policies
  • Understand the laws in their state specifically and how they affect their procedures

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

A prestigious judging panel of more than 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Fewer than 10 percent of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly. Approximately 25 percent of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “The Educational Institute’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”
