Dream Hotel Group and Selene International Celebrate Groundbreaking for $100 Million Dream Palm Springs
December 4, 2017 10:14am
PALM SPRINGS, CA (December 4, 2017) – Developed by Selene International, in partnership with Dream Hotel Group, Dream Palm Springs will be a driving force in the ongoing revitalization of downtown Palm Springs. Located on the corner of Amado Road and Calle Alvarado, adjacent to the Convention Center, the 169-room hotel pairs executive architect Oswaldo D. Lopez with Hirsch Bender Associates (HBA) for design and is expected to open with 30 private residences, multiple experiential dining and nightlife venues and more than 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting space in late 2019.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this exciting $100 million development took place yesterday, Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 5:30pm, and featured Mayor Robert Moon as keynote speaker, as well as key members of the Dream team, developer Lauri Kibby and Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein, among others.
The opening of Dream Palm Springs is part of a larger economic development plan for the city of Palm Springs. With more visitors in recent history, the city is experiencing unprecedented economic growth. Dream Palm Springs is expected to generate tax revenue and create new jobs, while also offering the growing residential and business communities a new reason to work and play in the neighborhood surrounding downtown Palm Springs.
“The Palm Springs Convention Center is a major economic driver in our city, and Dream Palm Springs is an extraordinary lodging, dining and meeting venue that will provide a tremendous attraction to high-end convention business,” said Mayor Robert Moon. “In addition, the residential component of the Dream Hotel complex is a brilliant and innovative concept that will make available luxury primary or secondary residences that have the convenience of onsite hotel services.”
“We are excited to welcome the Dream brand of Hospitality to Palm Springs,” added Scott White, President and CEO of the Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The unique style and experience of Dream Palm Springs will be a wonderful addition to our destination and will elevate our ability to attract the modern traveler for years to come.”
Joining Mayor Moon today were Selene developer Lauri Kibby; Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein; Mayor Pro-Tem Ginny Foat and City Councilmember Geoff Kors.
“We are delighted to finally commence construction on this iconic project,” said developer Lauri Kibby, Selene International. “It’s been a long and windy road getting this project off the ground, and we appreciate the patience and determination of everyone involved. We set out to contribute something meaningful to Palm Springs and this focus has never changed. We are not just building another hotel with Dream Palm Springs – we are building an experience – one that we hope will contribute substantially to the future of this great city.”
“Many of you know this is my last week on City Council, and I couldn’t end my 14-year term on a higher note,” said Mayor Pro-tem and City Councilmember Ginny Foat. “It is such an honor to have this incredible brand in Palm Springs. Not only because I believe that is the most beautiful project that our Council has ever approved, but for what it stands for. Every aspect of the design of this hotel has incorporated something for the citizens of Palm Springs to enjoy.”
“As one of the top resort destinations in the world, Palm Springs is thrilled to soon become home to its first luxury resort hotel,” added City Councilmember Geoff Kors. “The Dream brand is a perfect fit for our city and will draw more visitors to our slice of paradise.”
“All of us at Dream are proud to play a role in creating what will be one of the most spectacular new additions to downtown Palm Springs,” remarked Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein. “On the heels of our latest Dream Hotel opening in Hollywood, I couldn’t be more confident that Dream Palm Springs will be the star of Coachella Valley and a critical addition to our growing portfolio worldwide.”
Dream Palm Springs will open with 169 rooms, 30 private residences, multiple restaurants and bars, and more than 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting space in late 2019. Ideally situated in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, the hotel’s presence will contribute to an important area of the city. It will support the local community and the 12.9 million tourists that come to Coachella Valley each year, adding another unique facet to Palm Spring’s iconic downtown district.
HBA centered the design of Dream Palm Springs on the idea of a California dream, specifically the cool, yet relaxed dream of the desert. The hotel will respect and honor the idealism of modernism, providing an experience before aesthetics. A culture of connection and kindness, where all walks of life come together effortlessly, is key. Abundant glass enhances the physical connection and interaction to the landscape and water features. Utilizing open spaces and unobstructed glazing will visually reward the viewer at the end of their journey of discovery. Materials are authentically and honestly used in their natural state, allowed to exist harmoniously in the new space.
“Dream Palm Springs will provide a retreat from the world’s activities and trappings, devoid of all noise” added HBA Partner & Design Director Darrell Long. “It will be the timeless host of everything good at that very moment in time for generations to come.”
Dream Hotel Group recently announced $1.5 billion in new hotel development, including Palm Springs and five other locations, all with independent hotel development partners. The new locations mark a thrilling new chapter for Dream Hotels, the group’s founding luxury lifestyle brand, positioning them as international hospitality innovators. Future U.S. locations include Nashville, Dallas and Palm Springs, with additional international openings in Doha, Qatar, New Delhi, India and Carabao Island in the Philippines.
The news follows that of the recent opening of Dream Hollywood in the heart of LA’s iconic Hollywood neighborhood on the corner of Selma Avenue and N. Cahuenga Boulevard. Dream Hotel Group plans to sign another 30 hotels and resorts worldwide across all its brands – Dream Hotels, Time Hotels, The Chatwal and Unscripted Hotels – in the next four years, continuing to solidify its burgeoning global portfolio.
