Campaign Set to Raise $150,000 for LLS
ATLANTA, GA – March 31, 2016 –Carver Hotel Group (CHG), the Atlanta-based hospitality infrastructure powerhouse, is partnering with BB& T in a major fundraising effort for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, announced CHG President and CEO Joel Carver.
“On behalf of CHG, I am honored to partner with my friend, Laura Franklin of BB & T, to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” said Carver. “Leukemia touched our company directly when a member of the CHG family was diagnosed in the past year. I saw firsthand the need impacted families have for support.”
Financial support of LLS provides for more than 82% of the funds raised going directly to individuals who need them most. The combined CHG and BB & T effort is part of the organization’s Man & Woman of the Year Campaign, a 10-week fundraising competition to raise money for LLS and its efforts in finding a cure for blood cancers. Donations will also help directly improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
“Laura and I are proud to support this cause with the funds raised through the campaign in honor of two local children who are doing well in their battle against blood cancers - Emory, our Boy of the Year, who is 9 years old, and our Girl of the Year, 6-year-old Norah,” said Carver.
Since 1949, LLS has invested $814 million in leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplactic syndromes research. Forty years ago, a child’s chance of surviving leukemia was only 3%; today 9 out of 10 children survive. Hodgkin lymphoma patient survival rates have more than doubled to 88% since the 1960s, and survival rates for myeloma patients have tripled in the last decade. These advances would not have been possible without the help of caring individuals who supported LLS in its fundraising efforts, such as the Man and Woman of the Year Campaign.
CHG and BB & T have a campaign goal to raise $150,000 by June 11.
To make a donation to the campaign and support the efforts of LLS, visit the campaign’s secure website at http://www.mwoy.org/pages/ga/atlanta16/jcarver. Your donation is tax deductible and will go directly to the fulfillment of LLS’s mission.
