Industry leaders in digital key and identification technology recognized for spurring innovation in  supporting NFC-enabled digital credentials in Apple Wallet

Stockholm –July 6, 2022 – ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, a leading provider of advanced security technology for the hospitality industry, together with HID Global, a worldwide leader in trusted identity solutions, have been named winners in this year’s  NFC Forum Innovation Awards. Out of 12 finalists representing several of the world’s most innovative NFC-based solutions, both companies were ultimately selected due to their advances in providing identity solutions capable of supporting digital credentials in  Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Chosen by an expert panel of judges with decades of experience in NFC and mobile solution technologies, employee badge, student ID and room key in Apple Wallet represents a digital transformation for how individuals can navigate modern building environments. The solution  importantly address growing expectations for enhanced convenience while also catering to demands for heightened contactless security. Users can simply tap  their device near a door’s NFC-enabled reader or lock to access secured areas. Further boosting convenience is Express Mode, a feature allowing users to use their employee badge or room key in Apple Wallet without having to unlock their iPhone or Apple Watch device. And if a user’s iPhone needs a charge, Power Reserve mode provides up to five hours of access so users can still gain room or building entry.

“Today’s consumers and hotel guests increasingly expect enhanced and more convenient accessibility to building areas, but they importantly don’t want it to come at the price of reduced safety,” said Li Wang, Senior Vice President and Head of Hospitality at ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions. “We are honored that the NFC Forum recognizes the game-changing possibilities that our solutions provide in making the world both more accessible and secure by using credentials in Apple Wallet. We look forward to providing additional customers with access to this innovative technology as they seek to run competitive businesses able to keep pace with ongoing shifts in service digitalization.”

For hotels, room key in Apple Wallet is currently made available via the cloud-based solution, Vostio Access Management by ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions. Featuring continuous high-level security with the use of regular automatic software updates, Vostio Access Management provides the digital key information that is securely delivered to guest devices. Room keys in Apple Wallet are compatible with VingCard door locks by ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions. With VingCard Essence, VingCard Signature and VingCard Classic locks, mobile access compatibility ensures that room keys in Apple Wallet can be readily activated without requiring new or additional hardware.

“Employee badge, student ID and room key in Apple Wallet represents a game-changing user experience that will increase adoption of mobile credentials. This technology meets growing expectations for enhanced convenience while addressing demands for heightened security,” said Debra Spitler, Vice President of Business Development at HID Global.

Employee badge and student ID in Apple Wallet is compatible with HID Global’s  OrigoTM solution, an advanced cloud platform that enables fully automated and secure lifecycle management of all mobile credentials. Once a credential is added to Apple Wallet, users can gain access to building entrances, office doors, elevators, turnstiles, multi-function printers, gyms, lockers, and much more.
