Jan Goessing Appointed GM at Kahala Mandarin Oriental 
and Alan Hepburn  as GM at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta
11 September 1998... Mr Andreas Mattmüller, Operations and Human Resources Director of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is pleased to announce the appointments of Mr Jan Goessing as General Manager of Kahala Mandarin Oriental, Hawaii and Mr Alan Hepburn as General Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta. 

Jan, who is currently General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta will assume his new position effective 15th October 1998.

He commenced his career as a Management Trainee, moving on to become Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich, Germany. He then moved to Luxembourg where he was part of the opening team for the Inter-Continental Hotel, before moving to The Palmer House and Towers in Chicago, Illinois as Assistant Director of Food and Beverage. This was followed by a four-year stint in Boston, Massachusetts, first as Director of Food and Beverage at The Lafayette Hotel, then at The Colonnade Hotel where he was appointed as Executive Assistant Manager. 
In December 1990, Jan joined The Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California as Director of Food and Beverage where he remained until joining Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong as Manager in 1994. In September 1997, he was promoted to General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta, from where he will now move to Hawaii. 

Jan is a German national and fluent in English, German and French. He is a certified Food and Beverage Executive with the American Hotel and Motel Association and a graduate of the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration summer programme. 

Taking over from Jan as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta is Alan Hepburn, currently Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. His appointment becomes effective 12th October 1998. 

Alan's earlier career began with three years at the Inn On The Park, Four Seasons in London in Food and Beverage positions. He then joined The Mayfair Intercontinental Hotel, London, where he gained both operations and sales experience, before moving to Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong in June 1987. He moved to Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta in September 1990 as Food and Beverage Manager, before becoming Resident Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Macau in May 1993. Thereafter he took on the role as Manager at the Group's hotel in Manila where he spent three years prior to returning to Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong in his current role as Manager in October 1997. 

A British national, Alan is a graduate of Westminster Hotel School.
