CHICAGO, IL - March 3, 2000 - Hyatt Hotels Corporation
has assumed management of Newport, Rhode Island's Doubletree Islander hotel,
according to an announcement today by the Chicago-based company.
The property has been purchased by business interests of the Pritzker family
of Chicago, whose other interests include Hyatt. The hotel has been renamed
Hyatt Regency Newport.
"The historic Rhode Island location provides Hyatt with an excellent opportunity to expand its growing portfolio," said Scott D. Miller, president, Hyatt Hotels Corporation. "This is our first Rhode Island property and we're thrilled to provide our customers with a Hyatt destination in this unique harborside town." The 264-room hotel occupies nine acres on the tip of the 38-acre Goat Island. Just off the Newport coast, views from the spacious rooms and suites include Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Additionally, the hotel offers the largest amount of function space in the Newport area with more than 25,000 square feet of finely appointed indoor banquet and meeting space. This includes the newly renovated Rose Island Ballroom, which offers a panoramic view of the Rose Island Lighthouse and Narragansett Bay from the attached outdoor deck. There are also superb outdoor function areas for events held in the summer months. Guests can relax beside an outdoor saltwater pool or an indoor freshwater
pool. The Hyatt Regency Newport also offers The Newport Spa, a full-service
amenity spa. Guests can indulge themselves with full-body wraps, massages
and beauty care. The spa offers individual treatments or special spa packages.
