WASHINGTON- April 28, 1999 -MeriStar Hotels & Resorts (NYSE:MMH), the nation's largest independent, hotel management company, today announced that it has signed long-term contracts to manage the 280-room Doubletree Palm Beach Gardens in Palm Beach, Florida and a 104-room Quality Inns & Suites in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Approximately three miles from the Atlantic Ocean at the northwest corner of PGA Boulevard and I-95, the Doubletree Palm Beach Gardens Hotel is located within minutes of the Palm Beach International Airport and the PGA National Golf Resort. Configured in two guest towers, the hotel provides such amenities as an outdoor pool, 4,800 square feet of meeting space and two restaurants. Guest rooms contain two-line phones with voice messaging and dataports, complimentary coffee and coffee makers and 25`` cable televisions.

An affiliate of Denver-based Amstar Group, Ltd., the hotel's owner, acquired the property in 1996 and subsequently completed an $11.0 million renovation to improve the building's exterior, guest rooms and public spaces. A porte cochere was added, as well as an enhanced pool area with deck improvements and landscaping enrichments. All guest rooms and baths were completely refurbished with new soft and case goods, mirrored closet and bathroom doors, tiled bathroom floors, vanities and bathroom trim. Additionally, meeting space was increased and the restaurant was reconfigured.

``The Doubletree Palm Beach Gardens marks our 28th management contract in Florida,'' said Paul Whetsell, MeriStar chairman and CEO. ``Part of our management strategy is to make the most of our size by geographically clustering properties. This allows us to cross-market and take advantage of additional economies of scale.''

Situated near several corporate demand generators, the Quality Inn & Suites Brattleboro is proximate to some of Vermont's best skiing, hiking, biking and canoeing locations. Guest room and suite amenities include coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, free local calls and complimentary newspapers. Additionally, the hotel provides an indoor/outdoor pool, fitness center, sauna, whirlpool, meeting space to accommodate up to 400 people, and fax machine and copier services.

``This hotel has a prime location for both business and leisure travelers,'' noted Whetsell. ``It is across the street from the area's largest corporate complex and is within minutes of some of
Vermont's finest natural wonders. With MeriStar's management team in place, the hotel is ready to take on new market share.''
