George Washington University Offering Tourism Course Online

WASHINGTON - May 11, 1999--The George Washington University announced today it is offering Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality Management, as an online course this summer.

After teaching the course for more than a decade on campus, the University named Dr. Sheryl Spivack as the virtual instructor.

Spivack says, "Tourism is one of the largest employment sectors in today's market. However, while the labor demand for tourism is increasing, the supply of workers with the right skills to work in this industry appears to be decreasing."

Spivack adds, "Beginning July 6, 1999, people interested in developing or pursuing careers in the hospitality and tourism management field will be able to take advantage of this introductory course."

The online course incorporates free off the shelf software technology, such as the Real Player, allowing students to hear and see lectures as if they were in an actual classroom, while working at their own pace.

The course includes interactive quizzes, reading assignments, papers (via e-mail), and Internet delivered exams through 15 separate units and students can basically take the course at their own pace.
