 EveryWire System Provides Hotels
with Easy In-Room Installation of
Internet Access Without Cost of Rewiring

AUSTIN, Texas June 21, 1999 Wayport, Inc., a leading high speed Internet solutions provider for hotels, airports and conference centers, has announced availability of its EveryWire system solution.  Whatever type of wiring plant currently exists in a hotel, Wayports EveryWire system can provide reliable Internet access based on standard Ethernet technology to guest rooms and meetings spaces with no disruption to operations and no displacement of guests. The Wayport EveryWire solution delivers fast Internet service over all existing wiring plants: Category 5, Category 3 and typical unrated wiring, saving hoteliers considerable capital costs that were previously required to re-wire hotels.

Until now, one of the barriers to rapid Internet deployment has been the understandable reluctance of hotel executives to spend anywhere from $200 to $400 per room to upgrade wiring plants on an operation that also displaces room revenue during installation, said Brett Stewart, chief executive officer, Wayport. With no rewiring costs, an inexpensive installation investment and quick guestroom install process, the Wayport EveryWire System is everything hoteliers want in Internet connectivity fast, easy, and affordable. Because Wayport owns and operates all EveryWire networking equipment, Wayport, not the hotelier, is responsible for upgrading the equipment to support higher performance and new features in the future.

The Wayport EveryWire system is comprised of two flexible components, an EveryWire Network Distribution Unit (NDU) and either an in-room wall jack or a desktop unit.

Wayports EveryWire NDU drives fast Ethernet over existing wire to guestrooms and is ruggedized to provide reliable network performance. The EveryWire equipment delivers maximum performance over each type of wiring plant. The first version of the EveryWire solution delivers 1/10 Mbps (Megabits per second) Ethernet over unrated wire, 10 Mbps Ethernet over Category 3 wire, and 10 and 100 Mbps performance over Category 5 wire. The EveryWire equipment can be installed in any hotel environment, from a humid service closet to a non-climate controlled laundry room. The Internet and network technologies are rapidly evolving, so Wayport has designed the EveryWire solution to keep up with rapid change. The NDU is designed to achieve highest performance and to support new features as they appear.

Because installation of the Wayport EveryWire solution takes just a few minutes per room, no guest revenue is displaced when the room connection is made. The desktop unit has an RJ45 Ethernet jack on its side, in the same location as a typical modem dataport. Wayport is also collaborating with Teledex to provide an EveryWire version of its TeamNet unit. Hotels may alternatively choose to have the wall jack reterminated with an RJ45 Ethernet jack. Either installation is quick and easy, with no disruption of hotel operations.

Wayport is accepting orders today for Wayport EveryWire installations starting in September 1999.
