Atlanta - (March 24, 1999) - The Hampton Inn & Suites
Atlanta Downtown celebrated its Grand Opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony
recently in its renovated art deco-style historic home at 161 Spring Street.
With 119 newly-designed rooms and suites, the boutique hotel marks the
second property in Atlanta for Cooper Companies, a Memphis-based hotel
development and management company.
"We are pleased to be a part of Atlanta's growing downtown hotel market," said Pace Cooper, president and CEO of the Cooper Companies and host of the celebration. "Our guests will enjoy our boutique hotel along with value-added accommodations and the 100 percent Satisfaction Guarantee for which Hampton is known." Pace Cooper and General Manager James A. Burkett welcomed guests and dignitaries to the hotel, including Tom Keltner, Chief Development Officer for Promus Hotels, the hotel�s franchise partner, City Councilman Doug Alexander, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce president Sam Williams, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau president Spurgeon Rchardson, and former mayor of Atlanta Sam Massell, a direct descendant of the three Massell brothers who built the original structure. Also on hand for the festivities were: Jodi Lally, marketing director for the Atlanta Preservation Center, the hotel�s community partner; Ron Stang, Partner, Stang & Newdow, the architectural firm that designed the hotel, and Nancy Juneau, vice president of Juneau Construction, the project�s construction firm. Glen Stanton, Vice President Operations for Cooper Companies, Lara Jaffe, Director of Sales, Robert Williams, Assistant General Manager and Sales Manager Dominic T. Silva completed the welcoming party. The hotel features 42 suites, 77 rooms and more than 1,300 square feet in four meeting rooms adjacent to a spacious lobby showcasing vaulted ceilings, art deco decor and floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. More than 70 guests can be accommodated at one function with theater-style seating. A professional meeting planner is on staff to manage meeting details.
