Inn at Semiahmoo Purchased by Trillium Corp., Wyndham Removed as Operator

BLAINE, Wash., March 1, 1999 -  Semiahmoo Company, owners and operators of Resort Semiahmoo's marina, golf course and real estate divisions, has purchased the Inn at Semiahmoo, a top-rated destination resort, from Nippon Landic and taken over operation of the Inn from Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. Terms of the deal were not announced. Semiahmoo Company is owned by Bellingham-based Trillium Corporation.

In 1980, Trillium chairman David Syre purchased the acreage on which Resort Semiahmoo sits and created the vision for the property, which today includes a 2,000-acre master-planned community, an 18-hole Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, full-service marina, natural wildlife preserve, as well as residential and resort property. The Inn was developed under separate ownership.

Trillium also owns an additional 1,200 acres at nearby Birch Point as well as another 1,200 acres at Cherry Point. All land has been designated by the State as areas for growth under the Growth Management Act.

"As a major landowner at Cherry Point and Birch Point, Trillium Corporation is committed to creating a vision for the properties that take advantage of their location and natural beauty," Syre noted. "We have begun a comprehensive master planning process and are working diligently to ensure that these Northwest jewels connect the region culturally and through nature, as well as contribute to the economic well-being of Whatcom County and the State of Washington."

"We are excited to have the Inn join us in a shared vision for the future of Resort Semiahmoo," said Teri Treat, executive vice president and general manager of Semiahmoo Company. "The addition of the hotel and conference center combines all divisions of the resort under unified ownership and operations. This allows us to leverage resort benefits and provide greater service and value to our residents and guests."

Although Wyndham will no longer be in charge of operations, there are no staffing or management changes planned.

"Although the separate divisions of the resort have always worked together, the shared goals of a single management team will enable us to focus our efforts to provide a truly full-service resort experience," said Carol Calabrese, general manager of the Inn at Semiahmoo. "There is a great deal of positive energy and a renewed synergy as we look to the future of Semiahmoo. It's an exciting time for all of us."

Since its founding in 1974, Trillium Corporation has evolved from a Pacific Northwest regional real estate company into a global investment firm with a strategically diverse portfolio. The company has more than $300 million in assets, including real estate interests in 20 states within the U.S., South America and Canada, as well as significant capital investments in growth-oriented companies.

The Inn at Semiahmoo is a gracious, Cape Cod-style hotel with 200 rooms comfortably decorated in rattan, pine and country prints. Thirty-seven of the rooms offer inviting fireplaces for year-round enjoyment... both winter and summer are pleasantly mild here in Puget Sound. The hotel's lobby is spacious and light, with touches of white pine and fir in the open beams and along the sweeping stairway to thesecond floor.
