March 1999 - Meliá Purosani, located in the
heart of Yogyakarta, has announced the launch of its "Cabaret Extravaganza"
as part of the hotel's entertainment programme.
The Cabaret, which includes a sumptuous international buffet dinner, will feature a Vegas-style glittering array of well-known international musical and Broadway numbers as well as the classical Javanese portrayal of the epic Ramayana. The Cabaret is set in the Parangsari Restaurant within the landscaped gardens of Meliá Purosani and is performed at 7:30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The show including dinner, is priced at RP 98.500++ per person. Meliá Purosani's "Cabaret Extravaganza" is the latest addition to Sol Meliá's international repertoire, and is part of the hotel management company's efforts to maintain international standards of entertainment. The first regional hotel to offer such a show was Meliá Bali. The Sol Meliá Entertainment School, based in Europe constantly selects and trains candidates in evening entertainment, children's activities, and sports management. Candidates that successfully complete the demanding courses are offered a minimum contract of 6 months at one of its 250 properties in 30 countries around the globe as well as opportunities for employment in many other departments within the company. The Sol Meliá Entertainment School has been carrying out training courses for 19 years and has provided training to more than 4,000 people in this period. The Entertainment School consistently spends 50 million pesetas annually on training and re-training hotel entertainment staff. The Sol Meliá Hotel Entertainment School has begun the selection process for almost 300 participants for this year's hotel entertainment course, which will take place in 11 Sol Meliá properties throughout Spain. Selected candidates will receive training in daytime & evening entertainment, children's entertainment, sports activities, and dance and show presentations. The Hotel Entertainment Department currently employs more than 1,500 entertainers throughout the world and is also involved in organising refresher courses for current members of the team.
