293 Room  Hyatt Regency Kathmandu Being Developed by Saraf International Ltd.

CHICAGO -- December, 1998 ...Hyatt International will manage a newly constructed 293-room hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal, scheduled to open in late 1999. According to Bernd Chorengel, President of Hyatt International, "We are thoroughly delighted to manage a hotel in a country filled with vivid cultural and physical contrasts. Nepal has ben undergoing a steady and remarkable transformation after embracing democracy, and this paves the way for liberalization in certain investment policies and easing of restrictions to encourage growth and development of tourism and manufacturing areas."

The developer of Hyatt Regency Kathmandu is Saraf International Ltd. The architectural firm of Nikken Sekkei International Ltd. from Singapore has been appointed to the project and Hirsch Bedner Associates Pte Ltd. also from Singapore, have been named interior designers.

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu will occupy the site along the hillside overlooking the city of Kathmandu and surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayan Mountains and Mt. Everest. The mixed-use complex, designed to be the finest in Kathmandu, will also include 15 serviced apartments, a Casino, a Cultural Creaft Centre and a variety of shops.

In order to highlight the local culture, the low-rise design of the hotel will combine the distinct styles of Nepalese, Sherpa, Ghurkha, and Terai cultures and each of their architectural characteristics. The fusion of styles will be seen most clearly in the hotel lobby which features an indoor and outdoor courtyard with breathtaking views of the city and mountains and in the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the property.

Hyatt's "hotel within a hotel" or Regency Club accommodations will occupy two floors in a separate wing of the hotel and will total 39 rooms at 38 square-meters each. There will also be one Presidential Suite, two Executive Suites and three Junior Suites. The 36 square-meter guestrooms feature individually controlled air-conditioning, direct dial telephones, mini-bars, large closets and spacious bathrooms with separate shower and bath facilities.

The four Food and Beverage outlets and Fun Pub planned for the hotel include a two-storey authentic Nepalese restaurant; specialty Italian restaurant with a traditional wood-burning pizza oven; a Cafe, serving Asian and Western favorites; a Fun Pub with live entertainment and a Lobby Loung, serving light snacks and drinks in a casual setting.

Meeting and conference space includes a Grand Ballroom with an outdoor courtyard ideal for pre-function receptions and another meeting room which can be subdivided to five smaller meeting areas to accommodate various group sizes. To supplement these meeting areas, a fully functional Business and Communications Centre, equipped with up-to-date audio-visual and telecommunications facilities will be available.

For those who wish to relax and unwind, the hotel will also include a Health Club, complete with spa, jacuzzi, an outdoor swimming pool, a Fitness Centre as well as a semi-autonomous meditation centre for use by hotel guests and visitors to the property.

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, nestled into the rolling hills above the city, is thirty minutes from Tribhuvan International Airport.

"Kathmandu, still retains the colour and attractions of the medieval city while attracting travellers from 21st century. The fact that this country "houses" two of the world's most fascinating religions make the visit even more worthwhile. With its breath-taking mountain scenery, cultural mysticism, trekking tours and various action-packed activities, travellers can certainly be assured of time well spent in Nepal,", according to Henrietta Ho, Hyatt International Director of Business Development - Asia Pacific.
