Hyatt Regency Calgary to Open in June 2000

CHICAGO - Feb. 24, 1999--Hyatt's aggressive expansion is continuing with the addition of two hotels in Canada, according to an announcement today from Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corporation.

The hotels, one in Toronto and one in Calgary, take their place alongside Hyatt Regency Vancouver as the second and third Hyatt hotels in Canada, respectively. In addition, Hyatt-led Falls Management Company recently announced the development of the Niagara Falls region's largest-ever tourism development project, The Niagara Falls Casino/Gateway Project.

Park Hyatt Toronto

Toronto's luxurious, historic Park Plaza Hotel has been renamed Park Hyatt Toronto. It was purchased by business interests of the Pritzker family of Chicago, whose other interests include Hyatt.

Park Hyatt Toronto is one of only 13 Park Hyatt hotels in the world. The Park Hyatt brand includes exclusive "boutique" hotels that cater to the individual traveler seeking the highest level of personalized service and luxury.

Park Hyatt Toronto is located at the most prestigious corner in Canada, the intersection of Avenue Road and Bloor Street, in the heart of Toronto's fashionable Yorkville area across the street from the Royal Ontario Museum. For 70 years, the Park Plaza Hotel has held a firm place in the upper echelon of Canada's hotels. The hotel is one of the most recognizable buildings in downtown Toronto. Upon completion of its renovation in April, Park Hyatt Toronto will have 348 guestrooms. Currently, the hotel is operating with 90 rooms in its South Tower. In the North Tower, 258 rooms are now under renovation and will be completed and opened in April. The hotel also offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space.

Park Hyatt Toronto offers two restaurants, a Morton's of Chicago steakhouse and the hotel's three-meal restaurant and cafe. In addition, the renowned oak-paneled Roof Top Lounge, featuring a seasonal outdoor terrace, overlooks the city. And guests in the Mezzanine Tea Room Lounge can gaze down at the lobby below while socializing and sipping their tea.

Upon completion of the renovation, the hotel will feature a complete fitness centre, which will include an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room, as well as several treatment rooms.

Additional Hyatt Growth in Ontario

Also in Ontario, Hyatt-led Falls Management Company is spearheading the creation of the Niagara Falls region's largest-ever tourism development project. The Niagara Falls Casino/Gateway Project will feature a casino, a Hyatt hotel, meeting and exhibition space, a performing arts centere, a multiplex cinema, an amphitheatre, a variety of themed food and beverage outlets, a full-service health spa, retail and more.

Hyatt Regency Calgary

A brand new, 355-room Hyatt Regency Calgary is currently under construction in downtown Calgary, on the corner of Centre Street and Seventh Avenue SE. It is scheduled to open in June, 2000. The hotel is being incorporated into the redevelopment of an entire city block, which includes the new TELUS Convention Centre and the restoration of several heritage buildings. The hotel's architecture will include features characteristic of the adjacent heritage buildings, including sandstone and signature roof profiles, window patterns and other exterior features.

The 20-story Hyatt Regency Calgary will offer Regency Club, Hyatt's most exclusive accommodations. Regency Club guests stay on a special, keyed-off floor and enjoy the use of the Regency Club lounge, which offers continental breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres. A concierge is also on hand to tend to the needs of Regency Club guests. The hotel will also feature a restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and health club. More than 27,000 square feet of meeting and function space will be available for business and social functions.
