Greater Niagara Regional Tourism Officials Lead Effort to Capture Larger Share of Canadian Tourism Market
David Lacki, GBCVB, Attending National Tour Association Annual Convention

Buffalo NY - Nov. 4, 1998 - Tourism officials from the Greater Niagara Region will host the second annual Canadian Marketplace and Reception on November 3 at the International Plaza Hotel (655 Dixon Road) in Toronto, Ontario.

The event, which is being coordinated by the Greater Buffalo Convention & Visitors Bureau, is part of the Bureaus and New York States continuing effort to promote the areas diverse regional tourism assets, sites and attractions.

The resurgence of Canadian interest in travel to the Greater Niagara Region and the annual Ontario Motorcoach Association (OMCA) annual convention, which coincided with the event, provided the catalyst for the joint effort.

More than 100 tour operators, 60 Canadian Automobile Association counselors, convention and meeting planners and members of the media will be among the attendees.

The reception and marketplace will begin at 7 p. m. Entertainment for the evening will include a live fun auction, featuring a host of value packed tourism prizes and gifts donated by the participating tourism destinations and businesses.

Public tourism agencies and private businesses from counties within the Greater Niagara Region including Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming;   the I Love NY tourism promotion arm of the State, along with several other New York State vacation regions joined forces to create the joint marketing and financial resources for the promotional venture.

Although the value of the Canadian dollar has declined in recent years,  Canada remains one of New York States largest international markets. This  joint regional marketing effort is viewed by the attendees and participants as an economical and efficient way to buy and sell tourism packages and services.
