Report: Over 80% of Timeshare Owners Satisfied with their Resort Purchase

INDIANAPOLIS - Dec. 14, 1998--Condominium resorts hold broad appeal among leisure travelers, according to a recent national consumer study showing that over 80 percent of timeshare owners are satisfied with their resort purchasers.

More than half (54 percent) of the people surveyed for the 1998 YPB National Leisure Travel MONITOR expressed interest in staying in a condominium resort during the next two years. Timeshare owners, who regularly vacation at resort condominiums, may hold the key to
understanding why.

In a survey conducted by RCI Consulting -- the research arm of Resort Condominiums International LLC -- almost 1700 timeshare owners revealed why this type of vacation is of interest to so many vacationers. For example:

77.8 percent believe resort timesharing has had a positive impact on their looking forward to vacations
73.1 percent of respondents agree that, since owning resort timesharing, they have enjoyed their vacations more
72.5 percent say they have experienced more vacation destinations
71.5 percent agree they have had a wider range of vacation experiences since owning resort timesharing
70.8 percent say they have stayed in higher quality resorts

"People who want the certainty of staying in quality resort condominiums should look into timesharing and timeshare exchange," said Ron E. Jackson, president and COO of RCI North America, the world's premier timeshare-exchange company. "Although there is a more than 80 percent satisfaction rate, the more telling statistic is that more than 75 percent said they recommend resort timesharing to their friends."

The Yankelovich MONITOR is a syndicated study of changing social values now in its 27th year. The YPB National Leisure Travel MONITOR zeroes in on travel trends among pleasure travelers. The study is sponsored by several companies involved in the travel industry,
including RCI.

Also in the MONITOR survey, 62 percent of respondents agree with the statement "even though there are many things I would like to own, I prefer spending money on experiences that will enrich my life, like travel, vacations, theater, good restaurants, etc." Jackson said, "That may explain why nearly 4 million people living in more than 200 countries currently own timesharing."

RCI, founded in 1974 in Indianapolis, Ind., is the leading timeshare-exchange company with more than 3,400 affiliated resorts in nearly 90 countries. In 1997, RCI booked more than 1.8 million exchanges, sending more than 6.5 million people on vacation. For more information, visit RCI's website at www.rci.com. RCI is a subsidiary of Cendant Corp.
