Starwood Hotels  Resorts Opens the $368 Million 
Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel  Towers
 
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 25, 1998 -  Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced today the opening of the deluxe, 398-room Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel Towers. The hotel joins Starwood's two other Sheraton Hotels and four Westin hotels in Japan: the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay in Chiba, the Kobe Bay Sheraton Hotel Towers in Kobe, The Westin Kyoto Takaragaike Prince Hotel, The Westin Nagoya Castle, The Westin Osaka and The Westin Tokyo. With the opening of the Yokohama Bay Sheraton, the company now offers a total of 2,768 guest rooms in its seven Japanese hotels.

Built at a cost of $368 million(A) (50 billion yen), the Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel Towers is owned by Sagami Railway Co. Ltd. The 28-story hotel commands a spectacular view of Yokohama Bay, the Rainbow Bridge and the downtown area.

Yokohama is one of the largest ports in the world and a major center of economic and technological activity. Based on its "Minato Mirai 21" (or "Future Port of the 21st century") major urban redevelopment project combining business, commercial, cultural and residential aspects, Yokohama aims to be a highly integrated international city in the next century. Major industries in Yokohama include shipping, auto manufacturing, oil refining, computers and other high technology-oriented industries.

Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel Towers is well sited to cater to the burgeoning business activities of the city. Located immediately across from the west entrance of the JR Yokohama Station, the fourth largest train terminal in Japan with more than two million passengers daily, the Yokohama Bay Sheraton will cater mainly to business travelers who will appreciate the convenience of the hotel's access to a major train station and to the business district. The Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel Towers offers 398 well-designed guest rooms,with the latest in modern facilities and telecommunications. Hotel facilities include:

  • Two-line international direct dialing telephones with voice mail, including home country direct calling
  • 40 Towers rooms (two floors) offering additional benefits such as complimentary continental breakfast, private Towers Lounge with all-day light refreshment, express check-in and check-out, secretarial services and meeting room.
  • Eight restaurants and lounges, featuring cuisines ranging from Japanese, Chinese to a unique combination of French and New York cooking styles and food.
  • Banquet and wedding facilities including a chapel, shrine, photo room, beauty salon and costume salon. Banquet facilities include seven function rooms that can accommodate meetings and receptions for groups from 30 persons to 1,000 persons.
