SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Sept. 3, 1998 - LodgeNet Entertainment
Corporation (Nasdaq: LNET) and Nintendo of America Inc. today announced
more than 500,000 guest rooms are now being served with Nintendo(R) interactive
video games.
The LodgeNet/Nintendo affiliation began in 1993, when LodgeNet first used its b-LAN(SM) interactive system technology and its patented video game protocol to introduce Super NES to the lodging industry. This design advantage -- combined with the popularity of Nintendo game titles such as the Mario(TM) and Donkey Kong(R) series -- caused Nintendo to become the most successful new product rollout in the history of the hotel pay-per-view industry. "In just five years, we have made Nintendo games an integral guest pay amenity to hotel rooms around the world," said Steve Truckenmiller, VP of Guest Pay Services for LodgeNet. "While helping guests feel 'at home' with the Nintendo video games they know and love, we've also leveraged their interest into additional revenue per available room for hoteliers." During the summer of 1998 alone, approximately 35 million hotel guests viewed the Nintendo name on a LodgeNet hotel system. "We have been more than pleased to partner with LodgeNet in greatly extending the reach of our world-leading video game technology and titles," said Peter Eck, Director of Network Planning for Nintendo of America. "We congratulate LodgeNet on this milestone, and look forward to continuing our relationship with them to introduce our Nintendo 64 products into the Hospitality Environment." LodgeNet and Nintendo signed a long-term distribution agreement for
Nintendo 64 in June, 1998.
