David Kemp Named Vice President, National Sales 
at US Franchise Systems
 
ATLANTA (Sept. 22, 1998) - Atlanta-based US Franchise Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:  USFS), franchisor of Microtel Inn & Suites, Hawthorn Suites and Best Inns & Suites, has announced the appointment of David Kemp as Vice President, National Sales.

Kemp will be responsible for developing a national sales strategy and structure for all of USFS' hotel brands.  According to Mike Leven, President and CEO of USFS, "We are extremely fortunate to have recruited such an experienced and accomplished sales executive.  Kemp's sales
experience and positive energy will be a great contribution to the USFS family."

Before joining USFS, Kemp served seven years with Cendant Corporation, Inc. as Director of Regional Sales and Director of Corporate Sales representing the company's Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Park Inns and Ramada brands.  Prior to working with Cendant, Kemp spent 11 years with
Days Inns of America, Inc. in several sales and marketing positions including Director of Intermediary Market Development.  "US Franchise Systems is growing quickly and I am looking forward to implementing an effective sales effort that will have a positive impact on the company,"
said Kemp. 

Kemp served on the National Business Travel Association's Allied Council as Domestic Hotel Representative and on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Business Travel Association.  He is also an active member of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and Meeting Professional International and is past Vice President for the Society of Government Meeting Planners.

A native of Rome, Ga., Kemp received his bachelor's degree in marketing from Shorter College in Rome and his master's degree, also in marketing, from Mercer University in Atlanta.  Kemp is a 15-year resident of Atlanta.

Based in Atlanta, Ga., U.S. Franchise Systems, Inc. was formed in August 1995 by Mike Leven, a 38-year veteran of the lodging industry, and Neal Aronson, former principal of a New York investment firm, when the company purchased the franchise system rights to Microtel Inn, Microtel Inn & Suites and Microtel Suites.  U.S. Franchise Systems acquired the franchise rights to Hawthorn Suites, an extended-stay product, in 1996, and full ownership in March 1998.  U.S. Franchise Systems also acquired the franchise rights to Best Inns & Suites, a mid-level economy brand, in April 1998.
