Anthony Marshall Named President and CEO 
of Educational Institute of AH&MA

Orlando, Fla., July 15, 1998 -- Anthony Marshall has been named  president and CEO of the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Motel Association (AH&MA). Marshall, dean of the School of Hospitality Management at Florida International University and publisher of the Florida International University Hospitality Review, assumes his duties on September 1. 

"I am delighted that Tony has been selected EI president and CEO," said Bill Fisher, AH&MA president and CEO. "I have known and worked with him for more than 25 years and he is the right person at the right time. I anticipate the relationship between our organizations to benefit the industry in an unprecedented manner." 

A search committee, comprised of Jack Vaughn, CHA, chairman,  Opryland Lodging Group; Bob Slater, president, Southern Hospitality, Inc., and AH&MA treasurer; Howard Nusbaum, executive vice president, Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association; and Ron Cichy, Ph.d, CHA, CFBE, CHE, director and professor, The School of Hospitality Business, Michigan State University, was appointed in late May and reviewed a number of qualified candidates. 

"Tony has served as an EI board member for more than a decade and  has been one of its most avid supporters," said Vaughn. "There's no one in the industry who doesn't know and respect Tony, and we believe  he'll do a yeoman's job." 

Marshall serves on the board of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, and is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York Bar Association. Marshall received a bachelor of science degree in hotel administration from the University of New Hampshire and a juris doctorate from Syracuse University. 

"I am overwhelmed by the enormous support from industry and academic colleagues," said Marshall. "I am thrilled to be in a leadership role and look forward to serving an industry that has been so wonderful to me." 

AH&MA, founded in 1910, is a federation of state lodging associations throughout the United States with some 11,000 members worldwide, representing more than 1.4  million rooms. AH&MA provides operations, technical, educational, marketing, and  communications services plus governmental affairs representation to the lodging  industry.
