Holiday Inn Select - San Francisco Union Square
Converts to Crowne Plaza(R)

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20, 1998 -  The Holiday Inn Select-San Francisco Union Square, 480 Sutter Street, has a new look and a new name after a $12-million renovation project converted the hotel to a Crowne Plaza(R).

Crowne Plaza is the upscale brand of Bass Hotels and Resorts (formerly Holiday Hospitality). Crowne Plaza hotels feature substantially upgraded amenities, rigorous service standards and full-service meeting facilities. They are designed to meet the needs of discriminating business and leisure travelers.

The newly rebranded Crowne Plaza San Francisco Union Square is located in one of the country's most scenic and popular travel destinations. It offers a wide range of business services -- including concierge service -- and a full line of meeting, business and fitness facilities. Guestrooms feature coffeemakers, hairdryers, ironing boards with irons, 25-inch televisions and oversized work areas with data ports and voice mail. Professionally certified conference and social planning staffs help coordinate meetings and events with full audio/visual services.

Cafe Fresco is one of the hotel's most exciting new features. This Italian-style deli with outside, open-air seating offers traditional fare, specializing in rotisserie items. Complete, take-out family meals can be conveniently ordered via fax or Internet. The second restaurant, Girasole, features a Mediterranean-influenced menu by Chef De Cuisine Edoardo Caneri. A striking mural of the San Francisco skyline marks its entrance.

Decorated in rich mahogany and Italian marble, the renovated lobby includes a new bar. In the 30th-floor meeting rooms, enjoy sweeping city and bay views. All guestrooms were upgraded with new bedspreads, carpet, drapes and lighting. Eleven of the renovated guestrooms are fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Rooms on our executive levels include keyed elevator access and upgraded amenities such as two-line speaker phones. Guests on these floors have access to a club lounge serving continental breakfasts and evening cocktails.

The redesigned exterior includes a new facade with granite columns and marbled tile entryways.

The Crowne Plaza San Francisco Union Square is operated by Dallas-based Bristol Hotels Resorts (NYSE: BH) and owned by FelCor Lodging Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of FelCor Lodging Trust (NYSE: FCH). Bristol operates the largest number of Bass Hotels and Resorts branded hotels in the world. Bristol's more than 120 hotels include nearly 33,000 rooms in 27 states and Canada. They operate in the mid-priced to upscale segments of the industry and are located in 19 of the top 25 lodging markets in the United States. Bristol operates nearly 100 Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn properties and is a leading franchisee in Bass' billion-and-a-half-dollar modernization program. By the year 2000, Bristol will have overseen the investment of $400 million in the redevelopment of Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels.

On July 27, Bristol Hotel Company spun off all of its nonreal-estate holdings into the newly formed public company, Bristol Hotels Resorts, then sold its real estate assets to FelCor Lodging Trust through a merger on July 28. The transaction made Bristol the largest independent hotel operating company in North America and FelCor the largest non-paired share hotel REIT (real estate investment trust) in the nation. Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts -- a member of the Bass Hotels and Resorts' family of brands -- owns, operates or franchises more than 140 hotels and 40,000 guest rooms in more than 40 countries. The following service marks are owned by Bass Hotels and Resorts: Crowne Plaza(R) and Priority Club Worldwide(R).
