LAS VEGAS, Aug. 24, 1998 - The
Rio Suite Hotel & Casino's (NYSE: RHC - news) famous Wine Cellar
Tasting Room will soon make room for the arrival of a wine bottle of Titanic
proportion -- the Treasure of the Titanic -- the largest bottle of wine
in the world. Inspired by the historic event and the recent Academy Award
Winning movie ``Titanic,'' the 27 liter bottle, coined Treasure of the
Titanic, is set to dock Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the world-class resort as part
of its already $6 million wine collection.
Purchased at auction for $20,000, the Treasure of the Titanic is equivalent
to 36 bottles, or a total of 162
glasses, and holds Dry Creek Vineyard 1995 Reserve Merlot, the gold medal
winner of the France's International Competition. ``The Titanic as a label
is impressive, but more importantly, the wine is superb,'' the Rio's Master
Sommelier Barrie Larvin, commented at the purchase.
On Tuesday, Sept. 1 the waves will break in the Wine Cellar as the Rio
helps celebrate the video release of the highly-acclaimed movie by unveiling
the Treasure of the Titanic, displaying exclusive memorabilia, offering
free samples of the giant bottle's vintage and selling select bottles of
wine at one dollar, the same price as sold on the Titanic Ship in 1912.
``Captain of the Ship,'' Master Sommelier Larvin, also International President
to the Court of Master Sommeliers, will stand post to answer questions
and take guests through a historical experience with wine.
In addition, rare Titanic memorabilia will accompany the display, including:
-
Antique postcard of steamship Titanic printed
in 1912
-
Blueprint of the original steamship Titanic
-
Authenticated replica of the Couer de la Mer necklace
-
CD soundtrack from the movie ``Titanic'' autographed
by Oscar-winning composer James Horner
-
Authentic reproductions of Boston Daily Globe
newspaper from April 16, 1912
Bringing together some 100,000 bottles of the finest and rarest wines from
all over the world, the Rio's Wine Cellar Tasting Room is open daily, offering
something extraordinarily memorable for every nose, palate and spirit to
enjoy. The Rio's extensive collection includes renown centerpieces such
