Sydney, Australia - 24 August 1998 Developer Ipoh
Ltd has appointed Accor Asia Pacific to manage the 166 room Hotel Ibis
World Square which is due to open in the first quarter of 1999. Construction
by Fletcher Construction is currently underway.
The complex which is located on the corner of Goulburn and Pitt Street in central Sydney, includes a new 17 storey hotel tower and redevelopment of the existing Civic Hotel into a cosmopolitan bar and brasserie with outdoor dining and gaming facility. The brasserie, which will seat up to 130 people will be managed independently of the hotel. Positioned to accommodate corporate and leisure travellers, expected room rates will represent the best value for money international standard accommodation in central Sydney. Accommodation facilities include interconnecting, twin and double rooms, movielink and separate modem lines. The hotel also includes a number of private breakfast rooms including an outdoor terrace, that complement the art deco style of the existing building. Hotel Ibis World Square is the second Ibis to open in Sydney and the sixth in Australia. Renowned for their prime locations, convenience and value for money, the Ibis brand, which already includes almost 450 hotel worldwide, has been targeted by Accor for a major development drive into regional business areas around Australia and the rest of the world. With the southern end of Sydneys central business district undergoing rapid development, the new Ibis will be ideally targeted for cost-conscious business travellers and leisure travellers, said Michael Issenberg, Accor Asia Pacifics Managing Director Australia/New Zealand. With the Olympics imminent, we will expect considerable inbound business from the UK and continental Europe, where Ibis is well-established. There is also an Ibis currently under construction at Sydneys Homebush Bay Olympic Village site, which will further increase the brands profile in Australia. We also expect a strong level of domestic corporate business because of the hotels location and rates, which should help insulate the hotel against an increasingly competitive market in Sydney, concluded Mr Issenberg. Hotel Ibis World Square joins the existing Ibis network of Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and Sydneys Darling Harbour and Leura, strengthening the brands reach in Australia. Hotel Ibis is managed by Accor
Asia Pacific, Australias and Asia Pacifics largest hotel group.
The company manages 57 hotels in Australia and 135 around the region, and
is part of the 2,600 hotel network of the Accor Group, operators of the
Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and Formule 1 hotel brands.
