H. Skip Boyer to Head Best Western Communications Functions

PHOENIX, JUNE 2, l998 - Best Western International, Inc., named veteran communicator William H. Skip Boyer to direct its public relations and communications activities, according to an announcement today by Chief Operating Officer Jerry R. Manion. Boyer will serve as director of Public Relations / Communications, a newly established department that combines the external and internal communications operations of the global hotel giant.

"We believe that the establishment of a single communications team is an efficient use of our resources and will both strengthen our message and provide stronger support for our hoteliers and corporate staff" says Manion. "And we are very pleased to have a communicator of Skip Boyer's experience to give direction to this effort."

Boyer will oversee media relations, general public and community relations and internal communications. Boyer joined Best Western in 1983 as managing editor of Corporate Communications. He has served in a variety of communications positions since that time, including director of Corporate Communications. Prior to joining Best Western, he served as director of Public Relations for Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Fla.; Virginia Wesleyan College, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Philmont Scout Ranch, the national camping center of the Boy Scouts of America in Cimarron, N.M. A native of Omaha, Nebr., he holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in journalism from Kansas State University and Hastings, Nebr., College, and the Accredited Business Communicator designation from the International Association of Business Communicators. His work has received more than 100 awards.
