The Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston is pleased to announce the Third Annual Conference on Graduate Education and Graduate Students Research in Hospitality and Tourism. This event has been scheduled to take place at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel and Conference Center (on the campus of the University of Houston).

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for graduate program administrators, graduate faculty members, and graduate students with an opportunity to explore contemporary and future educational and research issues in hospitality/tourism graduate programs and to exchange ideas and information on "state-of-the-art" graduate student research in hospitality and tourism. Additionally, the conference will afford a unique networking opportunity to graduate students and faculty.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND · Graduate students in hospitality, tourism, and aligned areas. · Faculty members in hospitality, tourism and related areas · Administrators of graduate degree granting programs · Undergraduate students interested in graduate education in hospitality/tourism · Industry professionals and textbook and journal publishers interested in graduate education in hospitality/tourism

Representatives from many graduate programs in hospitality and tourism will attend and share information about their research activities and graduate education in the field. The focus of the conference and program will be on graduate students, research, and graduate education issues in the field of hospitality and tourism. While this conference has been designed for graduate students and faculty, undergraduate students and industry professionals with an interest in graduate education should consider attending.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Competitive Papers (Refereed) The conference will focus on a broad range of topics that are related to research and education in hospitality and tourism. The competitive papers sessions will be organized into the following three tracks:

Track 1: Contemporary Issues in Hospitality/ Tourism Graduate Education The intent of this track is to focus on a broad range of topics that are related to "graduate education" in hospitality and tourism. Authorship can be by graduate program administrators and faculty members. Graduate students may submit papers under this track under a co-authorship with a graduate faculty member(s). Possible topics include but are not limited to, those issues pertaining to:

Track 2: Contemporary Research in Hospitality/Tourism This track will focus on the presentation of completed research projects by graduate students (i.e., dissertations, theses, professional papers, or special projects). Submissions under this track can be either a single authorship by graduate students (or former graduate students) or joint authorship between a graduate student(s) and supervisory faculty member(s). Primary objective of this track is to provide a forum for reporting "state-of-the-art" research in hospitality and tourism which should focus on new, innovative development in concepts, models, theories, and/or research methods.

Track 3: Research In Progress The focus of this track is for current graduate students to report on their current research projects in progress e.g., dissertations, theses or professional papers). Papers accepted for this track will be scheduled either as "stand up" presentations or "round table" presentations. The presentation can be co-authored with a supervising professor. The objective of the presentation is for the presenter to benefit from the audience through constructive feedback on the issues or concepts and data analysis/ methods.

Submission Guidelines

Special Sessions/Workshops Proposals for special sessions and/or workshops must include the rationale for treating the topic as a special session or workshop, an outline of issues to be presented or discussed, and the names and affiliations of proposed session participants. If possible, commitments from participants of the special session should be obtained prior to proposal submission. Submit three copies of the proposed special session or workshop to the conference program chair.

PUBLICATION PLAN

Final copies of accepted papers will be professionally published as an edited conference proceedings PRIOR TO the conference. Additionally, selected papers from the conference will be included in an edited book scheduled to be published by The Haworth Press after the conference.

REGISTRATION AND HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

Conference registration fee will be $110 for registration before November 15, 1997 and $140 thereafter. The registration fee covers a copy of Conference Proceedings, one welcome reception, two breakfasts, one lunch, three refreshment breaks, and one dinner. A special conference room rate of $65 single or double per night will be offered at the University of Houston Hilton Hotel. For conference participants who wish to extend their stay, the same special rate will be applicable for two nights before and after the conference dates.
