"After just winning the International Association of Golf Tour Operators 2013 Golf Resort of the Year, the property is perfectly primed to take the guest experience to a new level with these resort-wide upgrades," said Tom Manno, General Manager at The Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa. "Already recognized as a leader in our market, these enhancements will continue to position the property as THE destination for the ultimate golf experience."
Enhanced Arrival Experience and Lobby Views
The refreshed resort, designed by a collaboration of MLG Architects, Monogram by Callison, Testani Design Troupe and EDSA, focuses on creating a natural beach resort atmosphere that rejuvenates guests throughout their stay. Upon entering the resort, guests are welcomed to a refreshed open-air porte-cochère that will transform the welcome experience with elements of wood and stone surrounded by landscaped gardens. Throughout the lobby area, guests will see panoramic views of the 63-acre resort through floor-to-ceiling windows revealing the waterfall, lagoon, deck, swimming pools, Floating Hole and the nearby TPC Sawgrass course.
Down the lobby staircase, the enhanced lower lobby experience welcomes guests to a convivial space where they can gather, relax, read, dine and drink. New oversized furnishings and warmer hues set the tone for an inviting atmosphere that resembles that of a private residence.
Dining
The resort will replace one of its onsite restaurants, The Augustine Grill, with an expanded Starbucks and General Store that will sell items from snacks to gourmet specialty food items for visitors looking to grab something to go. The resort will revamp Café on the Green-the resort's signature restaurant, changing the name to Vernon's and adding floor-to-ceiling views of the lagoon overlooking the TPC Sawgrass Course-to entice guests with a modern feel featuring a glass-enclosed wine cellar, open cooking stations, and upholstery and art reminiscent of golf culture. The popular pub, V. Kelly's will be renamed to Alice & Pete's Pub to honor golf legends and architects of the Stadium and Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass, Alice and Pete Dye. The Pub will also receive updates to reflect a more convivial environment, featuring a mahogany-hued décor and a large terrace shaded by a wood pergola and overlooking the floating hole, with direct access to the TPC clubhouse via a golf cart shuttle.
Stylish Accommodations
The resort's 80 signature Golf Villas, adjacent to the Island Green Pavilion, will be enhanced throughout, with all new furniture, finishes, fixtures, appliances, and carpet. The villas feature two spacious bedrooms and are outfitted with individual kitchens, which spell out convenience for golfers and families alike, as well as bathrooms with new vanities and light fixtures. Additional suites inside the main resort, including the ultimate Presidential Suite, are also poised for refresh.
Meet Me at Sawgrass
Already a hot spot for business travelers and the meetings market, special attention is being paid to the 56,000 square feet of meeting space with details ranging from new wall coverings, seating, light fixtures and carpeting in the 12 distinct meeting spaces. The carpet patterns will mimic the trajectory of golf balls; furnishings and fixtures provide an upscale, exclusive golf clubhouse appeal; and ballrooms, pre-function areas, meeting rooms and boardrooms will be completely re-vitalized with new artwork and memorabilia that will be a focal point throughout the resort.
The resort already completed the refreshed 5,100-square feet Island Green Pavilion, perfect for guests looking to say "I Do." The Pavilion now displays ivory and sand-toned drapery and subtle plaid carpet that ties the interiors back to the resort's emblematic golf theme.
Resort-Wide Refresh
Just a quick shuttle ride from the resort, the private Cabana Beach Club will also be experiencing a ReFresh. The oceanfront Club will emerge as a casual destination for diners, active travelers and beachgoers with a new look incorporating beach-inspired textures, materials and colors, and design touches that tie it back to the golf-centric appeal of the resort.
The Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa's refresh is set be completed in October 2013.
