A Summer 2014 Opening is Targeted

May 06, 2013--A Longview native is planning to develop his third hotel in Tyler.

Jagdish Patel, vice president of operations for Frisco-based NewcrestImage, said the company plans to break ground in about 90 days for a new 124-room Residence Inn by Marriott on South Broadway Avenue.

"We're very excited about developing a hotel in Tyler," Patel said.

The new hotel will be on a nearly three-acre lot near Carmike Cinema and the new Texas Spine & Joint facility on South Broadway Avenue. Construction will take up to a year, so he said they are targeting summer 2014 to open.

"We see all the growth going toward the south side of town on South Broadway," he said.

Patel, 28, was born and raised in Longview and his family has owned hotels in the East Texas area since 1978. The family formed Image Hospitality in 1993, and merged the company with Newcrest Management in December to form NewcrestImage, he said.

Patel said they have developed two Tyler hotels and two in Longview. In August, they sold the Holiday Inn Express on Troup Highway and Loop 323 and the Courtyard Marriott on South Broadway Avenue, he added.

Patel said the company has been working with Marriott since 2004 and built eight Marriott hotels. They have two in Grapevine and one under construction in Texarkana, as well as one in Oklahoma City.

The company has its own in-house construction team, and it builds hotels in Texas and surrounding states.

He said the Residence Inn by Marriott will be constructed from a completely different building design than the current Residence Inn, which is located on Troup Highway and has different owners.

"As a development and management company, we are very excited to be the company able to replace the existing Residence Inn," Patel said.

He said it is the ninth generation of Residence Inns and is the latest prototype design for the hotel.

The current layout is a group of separate buildings with four or five rooms in each building.

The new hotel will be one large building with an interior corridor leading to every room.

The rooms will be a mixture of two-bedroom and studio suites and will all have a kitchen.

The hotel will offer complimentary evening socials with snacks and beverages for guests, as well as free breakfasts, Patel said. Staff will even take the guest's grocery lists to do their shopping for them, he added.

It will also have a basketball court, half tennis court, an indoor pool and a large outdoor patio with a fire pit and barbecue grill.

Patel said the current Residence Inn will close about the same time the new one opens.
