Red Carnation Hotels Adds Ashford Castle in Ireland to its Portfolio

May 22, 2013 - Mrs. Beatrice Tollman, President and Founder of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, is delighted to announce the company’s acquisition of the five-star luxury hotel Ashford Castle in the west of Ireland.

The South African-born hotelier, last year’s recipient of the Hotelier of the Year at the European Hospitality Awards, commented: “We are thrilled to have Ashford Castle as part of our collection and welcome the whole team to the Red Carnation family. Like the rest of our hotels, Ashford Castle is an iconic property, in a unique location and with a reputation for luxury and excellence, and we are delighted that we will be bringing some of Red Carnation’s signature touches to it.”

The Red Carnation Hotel Collection Managing Director, Jonathan Raggett, continued: “We look forward to working with Ashford’s General Manager Niall Rochford and his excellent team, and also to seeking the best local talent to grow the workforce. We will be working with local suppliers and partners on a refurbishment program that will restore this illustrious hotel to its former glory, and build on the fine reputation that the hotel already enjoys.”

About Ashford Castle
Ashford Castle has a long and rich heritage dating back to the 13th century. It was a Guinness family home from 1855 until 1939, when Ashford Castle became a leading hotel. In 1970, it was acquired and developed by the well-known Irish-American John A. Mulcahy, who also developed one of the world’s top Links Golf Courses in Waterville. Ashford Castle is now a world famous hotel and is a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World. It attracts visitors from around the globe, and former visitors to Ashford include: King George V of Britain, President Ronald Reagan, Oscar Wilde, John Lennon, and more recently, Pierce Brosnan and Brad Pitt.

The castle includes 83 bedrooms, dining room, bar, drawing room, private dining rooms and a spa. Along with the magnificent gardens and grounds, there is a 9-hole golf course on the estate. Activities such as equestrian, falconry, boat trips, and exceptional fishing on the Cong & Lough Corrib are available on the estate.
