Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces, New Mexico Breaks Ground
on Expansion Project

The Hotel is Owned by Heritage Hotels and Resorts

By Brook Stockberger, Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Jan. 20, 2013--LAS CRUCES -- Open since October 1986 -- when it opened as a Hilton -- Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces is easy to find: It sits on the high ground at 705 S. Telshor Blvd., with a view of the city. Now the hotel is about to increase in size.

Owned by Heritage Hotels and Resorts, the location underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in 2006 and changed its name to the current moniker. Now another project is under way. When all is said and done with the five-month plan, the outdoor expansion will include improvements such as a resort-style, multi-level pool and an enhancement to the patio at Azul Lounge.

"No question that 2013 will be an exciting year for Hotel Encanto. With added outdoor spaces we anticipate holding new, exciting events to include performances by outstanding performers," said Donna Markey with the hotel.

General manager Belia Alvarez said that areas and space will be developed to enhance guests' experience, specifically outdoors spaces.

"The majority of the ground floor rooms will feature individual patio spaces adjacent to their rooms that will be shaded, covered in rose vines/jasmine and other annuals," Alvarez said in an e-mail.

She reports that there will also be a central, over-scale fountain and large pool that will overlook what is currently the western parking lot.

"Six feet will divide the upper garden and the lower gardens and pool area," Alvarez said. "A custom, hand carved cantera stone balustrade will divide the

two spaces. A grand, double stairway will lead guests to the pool entrance."

As for a patio at Azul Lounge?

"The space will be nearly doubled in size to approximately 3,000 square feet of overall outdoor patio space," Alvarez said. "The area will be enclosed on three sides with a traditional stone wall and open on one side to the view down across Foothills drive on the other."
