Tennis Pro Andy Murray to Break into the Hotel Game in Scotland

Acquires the Cromlix House in Dunblane

dpa, BerlinMcClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Feb. 25, 2013 --LONDON -- Andy Murray is expanding his investments off the tennis court, with the Scot confirming reports circulating since late 2012 that he has purchased a luxury hotel in his hometown of Dunblane, Scotland.

Cromlix House is the venue where his brother Jamie was married in 2010. Murray is following in the footsteps of Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero, who has for some years run a hotel near Valencia.

In addition, Rafael Nadal paid a visit last week to the Mexican island of Cozumel, to finalise a management deal on a hotel he owns along with resort property in Puerto Rico.

"I am pleased to have acquired Cromlix House and look forward to securing its future as a successful business," Murray said on his website Monday.

The first British man in 76 years to win a Grand Slam singles title when he claimed the US Open last September added: "By re-establishing Cromlix as a leading luxury hotel at the heart of the Dunblane community we will be able to attract new visitors to the area, create a number of new jobs and focus on supporting other local businesses.

"I'm pleased to be able to give something back to the community I grew up in."

Local media reported the purchase price as the equivalent of 2.75 million dollars.
