John Q. Hammons’ Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown in Oklahoma
Shows Off Phase One Renovation

Work on Phase Two Improvements for the 225-key Hotel to Begin in August 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY - February 12, 2013
--The Courtyard by Marriott Oklahoma City Downtown, adjacent to historic Bricktown, invites the public to come enjoy the beauty and ambience of its newly renovated guest rooms and meeting and convention space. Located just steps from Chesapeake Energy Arena, the 225-room/suite hotel recently completed phase one of its more than $2 million renovation. The eight-floor hotel plans to kick off phase two of its progressive makeover in August 2013. Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown is owned and operated by Springfield-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, the largest private, independent owner and manager of hotels in the United States.

Phase One Makeover With a Repurpose

All of the Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown’s guest rooms/suites now feature new plush carpet, furnishings and fixtures in a contemporary motif. Guests are welcomed by an inviting color palette of crimson, gold and earth tones. During their stay, guests can enjoy 37” LCD HDTVs, luxurious Serta Perfect Sleeper bedding designed specifically for Marriott, and the crisp white linen Revive Collection. In addition, part of the hotel’s 5,000 square feet of meeting and convention space received cosmetic changes.

According to Rex Amsler, general manager, hotel management’s environmental strategy played a key role in the renovation. The phase one facelift included more than 31,000 square yards of recycled wall vinyl. In addition, more than a thousand gently used guest room furniture items were donated to the local area to be repurposed.

“Being a good steward of the environment is a part of the John Q. Hammons’ legacy of excellence,” Amsler said. “It was especially rewarding for the hotel to have the opportunity to make a difference in the community by repurposing numerous pieces of hotel furniture with neighboring non-profits.”

Phase Two Improvements Scheduled

In late summer 2013, the Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown is slated to begin phase two of its extensive renovation of common areas, select meeting space, and fitness center. The upscale hotel is adopting the redesigned look of the Courtyard brand’s Refreshing Business Concept, which features “personalized” and “special” elements in common areas, including:
  • Functionally stylish lobby area, including pull-up tray tables, wireless Internet access and ample electrical outlets for powering digital devices
  • Cutting-edge technology with relevant information, including 57” LCD TV GoBoardTM with touch screen to navigate local information
  • Private, yet energetic common areas with 20” LCD TVs in media booths; lounge and local library with complimentary computer terminals and printer access
  • Stylish and versatile communal table for coffee bar by day and hot spot by night
  • Addition of a Starbucks
According to Amsler, the initial improvements to the hotel are getting positive notice, particularly from guests.

“My husband and I have enjoyed weekend staycations at the Courtyard Oklahoma City Downtown for years, especially when attending the basketball games in the nearby arena,” said Cheryl Clements, long-time guest. “The hotel’s location is ideal and staff is very friendly. I really like the hotel’s overall refreshed look, particularly the color scheme. Our fabulous experience at the hotel just keeps getting better.”
