Delta Hotels and Resorts to Open the 195-key Delta Waterloo Hotel in Ontario, Canada

The Property, Owned and Being Developed by Auburn Developments, is Reflective of the
Extensive Brand Repositioning Underway for the Delta Network of Hotels

November 27, 2012 (Toronto, ON)
– A new Delta Hotels and Resorts property is being built in Waterloo that will showcase a reinvigorated brand through modern design and innovations.  Slated to open in summer 2013, the Delta Waterloo Hotel will become the city’s first 4-star upscale, full service hotel after a $36 million investment.

The Delta network of hotels and resorts is undergoing an extensive brand repositioning designed to deliver one of the most upscale guest experiences in the four-star hotel category. All Delta properties are being built or renovated to boast some of the most modern design and techno- enabled guest spaces in the Canadian hotel marketplace. The Delta Waterloo, as well as Delta’s 45-storey flagship Toronto hotel scheduled for opening in 2014, will be reflective of the newly repositioned brand.

Delta’s current property in Kitchener will no longer be operated under the Delta brand effective March 31, 2013.

The Delta Waterloo will be part of the 14 acre Barrelyards development project that will transform this portion of Uptown Waterloo into a vibrant community which will consist of the nine-storey hotel, a 200,000 square foot office complex, luxury residential buildings, condominium towers, assisted living residences and townhomes.

The Delta Waterloo has been designed as a contemporary and unique boutique-style hotel with high tech design elements to reflect the needs and expectations of business travelers to the region. The public spaces are designed to feel spacious, modern and engaging. The property design has embraced a significant amount of walnut, stainless steel and other modern finishes in its public spaces and guest room suites. Each meeting and conference room has distinctive design twists.

The Delta Waterloo will offer upscale services and amenities including 195 ModeRoom™ guest rooms and suites which are modern, adaptable and robust with technology features. These rooms are aimed at today’s highly design-conscious travelers who want to live, work and connect on their own terms.  The hotel will also boast a full service restaurant and lounge, a leading edge fitness facility with a retreat-style pool, a business centre and approximately 8,000 square feet of meeting and conference space including a 3,000 square foot ballroom.

“This new hotel will reposition Delta as the market leader in Kitchener-Waterloo and will offer travelers the most modern, innovative and thoughtfully designed hotel in the region,” said Ken Greene, President & CEO, Delta Hotels and Resorts.  “The Delta Waterloo will represent the new Delta and we are thrilled to bring this upscale hotel experience to the heart of Canada’s high tech sector in Waterloo’s bustling business community.”

The Delta Waterloo will be managed by Delta Hotels and Resorts, and is owned and being developed by Auburn Developments Incorporated, a progressive and multi-faceted land development company.

“We are very excited to finally be bringing Delta’s new upscale hotel experience to Waterloo,” says Jamie Crich, Principal, Auburn Developments Inc. “We chose Delta because of the modern and innovative design concepts that are being introduced across the chain. We believe these developments combined with this Canadian brand’s exceptional reputation in service excellence across the country will deliver an upscale experience for guests traveling to the region.”

The hotel will be conveniently located in the heart of Uptown Waterloo and within walking distance of the historical train station, the Perimeter Institute, boutique shopping, restaurants, cafes, bars and entertainment venues. It is only two blocks to King Street and within close proximity to the University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier University. It is also a short drive from St. Jacob’s market, Chicopee Ski Hill and Tube Park, the Butterfly Conservatory and many other leisure attractions.

Delta Hotels and Resorts currently has 10 properties in Ontario and recently announced an additional four new hotels slated to open in the province by 2014 in markets including Toronto, Kingston, Thunder Bay and now Waterloo.  Delta Hotels and Resorts currently has 40 properties across Canada.
