The Mansions on Fifth Hotel Celebrates Grand Opening in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Completing Six Years of Restorations of Historic Mansions Creating the 22-suite Boutique Hotel

PITTSBURGH-December 5, 2012--At a ribbon cutting today, The Mansions on Fifth, a luxury hotel located on what was once known as Millionaire’s Row, celebrated its Grand Opening after six years of restorations. With historic designation, award winning recognition, and a first year of operations for its initial thirteen suites, the completion of the McCook Reed Mansion marks the Mansions designation as a twenty-two suite boutique hotel.

“Restored to its 20th century grandeur, The Mansions on Fifth is a luxury hotel that pampers guests with exceptional service in warm, magnificent surroundings,” said Mary Del Brady and Richard Pearson, owners of the Mansions. “Today, we celebrate the end of six years of detailed restoration and thank our neighbors, staff and the many partners who helped us to save this incredible historic asset and bring it back to life for our community.”
Located on Amberson Avenue just steps from the McCook Mansion, The McCook Reed Mansion is 8,000 square feet and includes two beautifully appointed sitting rooms, a glass mosaic fireplace and three floors with unique suites and architectural surprises from the past.

The McCook and McCook Reed mansions were built in the Elizabethan revivalist and Tudor styles and were the last among the grand mansions on Pittsburgh’s storied “Millionaire’s Row,” home of notable turn-of-the-century industrialists and financiers. The home was the private residence of Willis F. McCook, an industrialist who worked as Henry Clay Frick’s attorney, representing him in Frick’s celebrated fight with Andrew Carnegie. McCook and his wife raised ten children in the home and built the McCook Reed Mansion for eldest daughter Bessie and her husband upon their marriage.

For decades, the McCook Mansion played host to everyone from the well-to-do-family that commissioned it to military officers and college students. In 2004, a fire rendered the residence uninhabitable. It sat vacant until the current owners began a multi-year effort to purchase and restore it to its original grandeur.

Today, with a focus on unparalleled service, the hotel has 22 suites equipped with modern amenities and extras that include around-the-clock butler service and valet parking. Suites include discreet technology, such as wireless connectivity, flat-screen TVs and complementary iPads. The Mansions recently announced a new executive team that includes Joel Hurley as General Manager, Eric Earnest as Executive Chef and Jennifer Pendleton as Director of Sales and Events Management. The owners have created signature events including a jazz Music Series, wine tastings, incredible Sunday brunches and art immersion classes.

Mansions partners include the Common Plea, the exclusive caterer for large events, as well as Galerie Werner, which brings a unique, rotating collection of both fine European art and contemporary art to its public spaces.
